Roundworms

Post by Justice »

To top things off, I got a call from the vet to say the girls tested positive for roundworms. I will not be able to pick up the meds until tomorrow as their office already closed - can anyone tell me about the medication for this?

Stupid shelter. Horrible records. And they said they were dewormed!

Grrr. Nasty letter coming their way. But for now I just want my babies better!

I once got a puppy many years ago from the shelter...Bryn ended up in the hospital on IVs because he was so full of worms...we had taken him in and he got the dewroming meds, and got sooo very sick from the meds and worms he really almost died...

I called the shelter to let them know he had worms, because he was in wiht 2 other puppies...thier reply was, "Yes, we know, they were out down, if you would like to bring him back and choose another we will let you do that."

I could not believe that they put puppies down for roundworms...

Bryn was my very best friend for many years...

Strange that they close early, on a Friday.

Your vet is probably referring to Strongid-T, which is an effective dewormer specifically for roundworms. It's a liquid yellow paste that is given orally, one dose for mild worm burden, or 2 doses 14 days apart for severe burden.

I think they close early to the public on Fridays. I believe Friday afternoon is when they do surgury for the shelters nearby. Someone may call me back. I just thought someone here could help while I waited and you did - thanks.

What a shame about the puppy.. I'm glad to hear he was your good friend for a long time. I have no doubt that they will recover, I'm just concerned. And very annoyed with the shelter. Boy did they misrepresent things. I love them to death, my girls, but that shelter is horrible, and by having botched records they put all their animals at risk.

Thanks for the info. Now I have to learn how to give them meds LOL!
