Litter box - behavior vs. emergency

Post by Justice »

Malbie goes into the litter box, moves stuff around, then comes out. Shes' crying. Then she goes into a box I have in the living room with a blanket, sits there like she's trying to go to the bathroom, then leaves it. Walks around crying again, and repeats the whole thing. She has not been crying while she is *in* the litter box.

The box is clean. It's difficult to tell what she has done being that both girls use the same box.

Now she stopped and is sleeping as normal. He eating and playing habits have not changed. I have not found anything torn up, or any other evidence that she might have eaten something she should not have recently.

How long should I watch this- or should I be packing her for the vet???

Thanks,
EJ

Justice I would call vet and ask his opinion. She seems to be in alot of pain and sleeping is the way she is trying to not feel the pain. She might be constipated. Call vet and see what he/she thinks. Good luck and let us know what happens please.

Justice, this is not a wait-and-see situation. It is an emergency situation. Call you vet now and get Malbie seen right away. If she is blocked, this is a very serious situation. There could be crystals and/or and infection, and both are treatable, but can have dire results if left untreated. Go now, and good luck.

Thanks everyone. I called the vet, and they gave me an appointment for this evening. They said it sounds like an infection and will examine her today.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how she does later.

Now I have to figure out how to get her into the carrier....

ditto both answers....a vet trip NOW...

cats are sooo good at hiding pain...by the time we humans can notice their pain...it is unbearable to them...

please get her in ASAP....is there no way to even get her in sooner than this evening?!

Let us know what the vet says...

Agree, call them back and see if you can't get her seen IMMEDIATELY, rather than this evening, you can't take the risk of this being a blockage.

I am trying to get her in the carrier. it's been over an hour. I have tried treats, food, and a towel. The only advantage is she is tiring, but I can't get her in.

I feel so helpless! Like a bad owner1 JHelp!!!

when we have a difficult one, we stand the carrier on end, open the door, pick the cat up by the scruff of its neck (like a momma would) and lower it in hind feet first (do not drop it in!!)...and be ready to shut the door!

good luck and let us know what the vet says!

She won't let me near her to even grab the scruff. She's getting nasty. I'm all scratched up all over the place. This is horrible.

can you get her into a small room...like the bathroom, along with you adn the carrier, and close the bathroom door so she cannot get out...set the carrier on the floor and coax her into it that way?
