Toby (cocker mix) is getting on in years now, estimated 10-12 years as he was a death row rescue. He's had lumps and bumps pop up in recent years, nothing serious. He developed a lump in his inguinal area a few days ago, but was freely moving and I could discern no fingerlike extensions into the tissue at the time. Amber was going to put down money this paycheck for a dental for him, and get him examined next paycheck.
He was an absolute bear all day, worse than usual. We doubled up on his GlycoFlex III a couple of months ago per the vet's instructions and took him off the Deramaxx with good results. I didn't see any outward signs of an arthritic flareup today, he ate both meals with gusto, defecating/urinating fine, no fever, but extremely grumpy. I finally gave him a Deramaxx at 7 p.m. and when Amber got home I told her something was definitely amiss and he needed to see the vet sooner.
They headed to bed a bit ago, next thing I know she is hollering for me, I run in, she tells me to hit the overhead light, she has him on his back, tears streaming down her face, and tells me to feel the inside of his leg next to the lump. It's hard as a rock. I have the sickest feeling in my stomach right now. She kept saying she just knows it's cancer.
The vet does surgeries on Tuesday mornings, but I will call first thing and get him in afterwards. Please keep both Toby and Amber in your prayers. That little guy is her heart dog. Thanks.

You've got my prayers for Toby and Amber. It's tough when the furkids get older. Hope it turns out to be nothing....

Oh geez, DeVon, my prayers are with Toby and all of you that this is nothing serious...(I am assuming this is not close to the bladder and no urinary problems?)... I wish I could offer you advice, but that lump may need aspirating or removal, I know you will act in Toby's best interests! Good thoughts coming your way....

Sending good thoughts your way. Hope all turns out OK. I've had to deal will all kinds of lumps and bumps on my dogs over the years, and only one turned out to be a form of cancer, and that one was removed with no problem. Hope it isn't malignant, but if it is, I hope your luck runs the same way and it can be removed!
