Does any one know if it is easy to express your dogs anal glands? I have a Chi that for some reason keeps getting his anal glands full. Even though he has pretty solid bowl movments. I think it might be that they are not big enough to express the fluid. Any ways I can't afford to keep bringing him in to get it done. So I need to learn how to do it myself. He is pretty small, and I don't want to hurt him. Can any one tell me just what to do, so I can do it and get it over with fast. The more I am in there, the more I might hurt him.

Re: Anal glands on small dogs.
If your dog frequently has impacted anal glands, your vet could recommend surgery to correct the situation (that is, if it is clearly a clinical health problem, or that the glands frequently are infected or there is a mass, etc). Although I would suggest discussing your dog's diet first to determine if the diet is causing the problem.
Your vet can teach you how to express the glands, but if you're not comfortable with the procedure, or know how to do it correctly, it would be best to leave this up to your vet. Discuss the diet before you do anything.

and if your vet does teach you make sure you do it right...there is nothing more humiliating than squeezing the glands and squirting it into your face...or worse off squirting it into your wife's face as i once, and only once, did
