Cat Constipation?

Post by Jennifer »

My cat seems to be having trouble going poo.

She will squat in her litter box for several minutes, then give up and start to lick her butt.
She does this repeatedly several times a day, and is currently only pooing once every 2 or 3 days.

Is something wrong? Should I take her to the vet? What could be the problem?

My cat dislikes wet food, and mainly eats dry food..
There is plenty of water left out for her at all times.

Please give me advice!
Thank you so much

Yes, you need to take her to the vet, and immediately please.

She could be constipated, but could also be anal glands, only your vet can determine that based on exam and possible x-ray. Also, please make absolutely certain you are not mistaking this for inability to urinate as well, if she is blocked, by chance, this is a veterinary emergency!

Be sure to tell your vet what diet you've been feeding her and any other possible causes of stress, and the infrequency of the bowel movements. Don't delay, get her seen ASAP.
