MAX WAS FOUND!!!! It has been 37 days!!!! Max needs a lot of prayers!!!! He is in tough shape. Max is very malnourished (he weighs 3.5 #- he was 6-8 pounds when lost), he has a large wound in his right hind leg that has been there for awhile, and his jaw may be broken. He may have been hit by a car or attacked by an animal. We are waiting to hear how his liver and kidney function is. It has been 37 days that he has been gone and his condition is fragile!! It is truely a miracle that we have him!! Please pray that Max has a great recovery from this. It has been a tough first year for the little guy, his mom abandoned him as a kitten, he was malnourished when we got him and he had an upper respiratory infection which was serious and now one year later he has this to contend with. Please keep him in your prayers! He has been found which is a miracle and he again needs another miracle for a great recovery! Max is in ER tonight, it was tough leaving him there after him being gone from us for over 5 weeks. Please pray for him. Thanks to everyone who gave advice on searching for him, info. on search dogs, and info. on the follow-up vet appointment. It is sooo appreciated!!!
The best thing you can do right now, is allow your vet to treat Max very agressively....this may require quite a bit to get him back in excellent health. Be prepared for IV fluids, wound care, nutritional support, antibiotic support and of course, a possible jaw fracture repair. If your expenses allow, and the jaw is indeed fractured, Max stands a better chance of recovery with surgery as opposed to without. Plus, recuperation would be less time.
All this of course pending his liver and kidney function, those are the number one concerns right now, plus IV's and nutritional support. With agressive care, he has an excellent chance at a full recovery.
My prayers are with Max and you, hang in there and visit him every single chance you get. Hospitalization can be stressful for kitties, so if you can spend lots of time there with him, he will bond and will be encouraged to heal, he needs your presense as often as you can...
Oh My! What wonderful news that he's been found but I'm so sorry he's in such sad shape. I'm sending prayers for a complete recovery....He deserves a good life after his difficult beginning and now this. Please keep us updated!
I am so thrilled that you found Max! I can't even imagine what you were going through wondering where he was!
I'm glad he's being taken care of at the hospital. Please let them do all they need to do to help him. He definitely has earned the special treatment, hasn't he?!!! (Did he use up one of his nine lives, too? )
I'm praying for Max. When he's able to handle a big hug, give him one from me and the girls!

Throw an old teeshirt on and go lift weights or ride a bike or something to get really sweaty. Once the shirt is saturated with your scent, throw it into a ziplock bag and take it to the vets. Leave it in the cage with Max. As much trauma as this poor cat has gone through, your scent will calm him. I am glad he has been found- did the search dogs find him?
