update on dog that wont eat
well my doggy has decided he does want to eat but not out of his bowl and i am not sure why!! he has used that bowl for a yr now with no probs but hasnt been eating at all lately except for canned food or treats. so tonight i grabbed the bowl of food which he looked like he wanted and gave him a handfull which he sucked up fast!!! he then proceeded to eat the entire bowl ONLY if i had it in my hand. Has anyone else had this happen and does it now look like it could be from giving him human food in the past?
Re: update on dog that wont eat
has he been injured...a dog should readily eat when hungry, unless something is wrong...
My Sammie just had major back surgery and will ont eat from a dish...I am sure it hurts him to bend his head down, so I hand feed him right now...
I would get your dog in right away to see if he has received an injury to his neck or back which is keeping him from bending his head down that far to eat...

Re: update on dog that wont eat
On Sunday, you posted that he hadn't eaten normally for nearly a week. It's now Wednesday since you posted.
Please, get your dog seen by a vet immediately. Based on your verbal account and your pets' health histories, and subsequent exams, your vet can then help determine what the problems are, and how to diagnose and/or treat effectively. The point is, you don't know if something is wrong that is going undetected, only your vet can determine this through exams.

I definitely agree with Tambrey and traci - it's possible your dog has an injury - maybe to the back or neck, or if he's older, possibly arthritis - and the only way to know what's going on is to have him examined by your vet. If it is a back or neck injury, it can lead to serious, permanent problems if not treated promptly and appropriately.
