BEAR FOR REAL!..
BEAR FOR REAL!..
YIKES...they just had warning on news re a young black bear in residential area very nearby. Am kinda scared ...!! Can they get over a 4 foot fence- my guess is yes!...but would it discourage it???? Hopefully Honey won't have to go out again tonight and in the am will check out the yard first. They said they bear was spotted this morning- hope it went far away. Are bears afraid of fiesty barky little dogs?????
the old saying "they are more scared of you thanb you
are of them" Course in your case i guess they gotta be pretty darn scared..any if it it eh common black bear and not a grizzly, they will try their best to avoid humans if they have an escape route...in they are cornered then stay in side...but they can also climb 4 foot fences....try to get a pic if you can
oh,no...I saw one! got you a pic...
...........but seriously, davet, I did wonder at all noises last night..hope Mr. Bear is in the mountains by now!!! Unusual to have one around here. Very scarey going out with the dog at night.
Re: BEAR FOR REAL!..
I wouldn't worry too much - they're not predetors like coyotes &mountain lions. On the other hand, they will , like racoons and opposums, come around looking for food. Here's a link to site about this::

Re: BEAR FOR REAL!..
I think jdf is right - if you have your garbage cans outside, you may want to bring them in (if you have a garage or shed to put them in) so they don't attract him. Depending on its age, I think a young (baby?) bear would be more curious than vicious, but I wouldn't take any chances - they are omnivores, and a small dog might look like a nice dinner and if it is a baby - I'd be worried about running into mama bear!

Thanks ppl..will be careful. jdf- good website and even from NYS!
Plan to just be extra vigilant and careful, esp. when out with Honey...won't let her out alone. Bear probably gone by now..but must be time of year for this.

i think the one you got the photgraph could be kinda :scary,
another one like that in the same pose and the same background was seen several years ago in another state...he/she/or it must be working its way around the states.i think i would either stay away from he/she or it or else stop sniffing that glue stuff...he/she or it, unlike bears makes no noise at all...but try to get a better picture of he/she or it and a foot impression and you can go on national TV---but not while sniffing
davet - L O L!
When I take my 'bigfeet' into the woods, will take this bear.
Another pic for ya.............
This was taken in my back yard a few years ago.
This year we have two families that pass thru regularly - A mom and one baby and a mom with three babies! The mom and one cub comes by almost every day. A bear will usually run away once they spot you. A fence will discourage them but if they want to get over a fence badly enough, they'll do it. I saw a bear about 350 lbs get chased up a tree by a smallish keeshound, barking like mad. I kept thinking, man, that bear could just swat that dog across the yard, but he didn't, he ran up the tree and stayed there until the dog went away.
