Kitty meows
Kitty meows
A dumb question..I know. For the last couple days there has been a fairly young cat coming around our front porch, trying to climb the screens (I won't go into that one yet, as we had new window put in 2 years ago). I do know the people across the street have cats which are allowed to roam, and someone else feeds feral cats...I'll have to look into who this kitty belongs to.
My question is...I went out to get the mail, and "it" was on the porch...a very vocal kitty. I am absolutely positive that the "meow" ended in a question mark...like..can I come in? The meow went up at the end...
I have had cats, but this kinda floored me.

Re: Kitty meows
There have been 3 separate instances in my life when it was very obvious that a cat who just 'appeared out of nowhere' wanted to be in my life. (one I moved away from, and I found homes for the other two). l have always liked cats (I like all furry critters - except maybe bats and torantulas), but, my hubbie most definitely does not like cats. I have long held to a notion that cats choose their owners - not the other way around. An unhappy cat WILL move on!! This cat obviously thinks you are 'THE ONE'. If you can't find her owners, and you are up to taking in another mouth to feed - you have been chosen!!!

Gee thanks, Karen. I wouldn't mind taking this kitty in...DH and I would both like another cat...just with our dogs, I don't thinik it would work.
I have just never heard a cat meow with such intent. Guess I also have to say that when I approached it, it took off.
But this cat is gonna haunt me...and will probably show up again tomorrow.

Re: Kitty meows
probably...you may want to get some kitty food and a water dish and put some out for it...just so it does not go hungry and thirsty...and seei fi you can get it to eventually come to you...
we have one feral...she talks to me like you would' t believe...runs about 3 steps in front of me and even rolls over for belly rubs on thr ground in front of me...but the second I get too close, she is up and off...she never has gotten that belly rub she seems to so desperatyle want...

Not only cats, but dogs choose owners too. I am convinced that Sheba chose us. ...

You know, Tambrey, Izzy still does that to me sometimes. She rolls over and exposes her belly to show she trusts me, but then she won't let me touch her belly... lol. Animals are something, for sure.
As for the questioning meow, I definitely know what that sounds like. If I'm not up by a certain time in the morning, Izzy stars asking where I am. It's adorable. I definitely think they ask questions.

I'll never forget when we got cuddles, my daughter's cat who was with us and her for 15 years. We went to the shelter and there were MANY kittens. Well cuddles choose my daugher...she just nestled in her arms and did not squirm like the others - you could tell this was it. Once they were together they were never separated. Dau and cuddles always had a special bond.
ps- That's how I feel about Honey...even when I am with friends and I go to the ladies...she just sits there intently watching for me to return - that is the only thing on her mind. She is my heart dog for sure- we understand each other.

My parents recently chose a kitten for exactly the opposite reason. Two of them just laid there in your arms and purred. The third one purred the whole time, but would not sit still. He was so busy trying to climb up on your shoulders and check out everything else. He's also very good at cuddling, just very curious and loves to play.

My daughter has one of those dogs too. She named him 'Fuzzy'. He's a hound mix - about 10 years old - who showed up at her house and wouldn't go away. She put up posters, called the shelters and the SPCA and asked the neighbors if they knew where he belonged. The neighbors had seen him around for years, but no one knew where he came from. So, either his owners decided he was better off (or thought they were better off without him), or, he had been on his own for a while, and knew a good thing when he saw it. She and her roommates now have 4 dogs (my daughters Boston Terrier, a Chihuahua, a Dalmation, and Fuzzy, the hound mix). It's quite a menagerie! (and BTW - the Chihuahua is the 'alpha' - go figure!!)TheSkeptic wrote:Not only cats, but dogs choose owners too. I am convinced that Sheba chose us. ...

My Sebastian picked me. I found him while I was in college. He showed up, kept coming around, then one day strolled right in to my apartment and made himself at home. That was 15 years ago!
