SIL's alpha cat fetches the thick rubber bands you use for hair ponytails.

slvrwhispr, are you referring to hair scrunchies (that have material wrapped around them) or actual rubber bands? If rubber bands, please advise your SIL these are extremely dangerous for cats, and should not be given to play with at any time.

our Sarah...a long haired black cat plays fetch....she has since she was a kitten...we would play for half an hour or longer...she just would not give up on bringing that little fur mouse back to be tossed across the room again...now that she is older, she does not play as much...but she sure was crazy about fetch when she was younger!!

They're hair scrunchies. And she doesn't leave them out for the cats when she's not playing with them, just in case.

My cat Pat is quite the fetcher. He's got one specific toy that he plays fetch with, and only that one. It's a round ball dressed up like a leapard print mouse with a jingle bell. In my old house, he'd chase it up and down the stairs, and if you wouldn't throw it down the stairs for him, he'd throw it down himself and then chase it. He brings it right back and sets it down next to you, then sits there and waits for you to throw it. He doesn't play fetch as much now because the house layout isn't very conducive to it (and no stairs), but he still plays maybe once a week.

Winnie has stacks of toys she never plays with, but she is interested in cat toys you bet!

Here in the apartment, Q's favorite toys are my sneakers - he wrestles with a shoe fiercely, play-biting and clawing at it... then falls asleep with his head in it, like a puppy would. Too cute. I wonder if this could be partly because the sneakers have recently been in the house and yard where Win and the other pets live?

I had a cat who thought she was a retriever... Zorrah Rorshach the Inkblot Cartoon Cat (April 1977 - December 1989, buried in the same corner of the yard on which she was born) would fetch crumpled up paper as long as anyone would throw it for her... she liked candy wrappers and cigarette packages best [sigh... some people smoked in those days :x ...]
