Re: My Tiglet Has a New Home

Post by Tambrey »

Well...she went to her new home lastnight...and I felt so good about leaving her I did not even cry...I thought sure I would...
We took her into their house in a carrier, and left her sit on the floor for a couple of minutes in the carrier...their 5 year old sone was with his grandparents, which made it nice for introductions at the time...the woman got down and talked to Tiglet through the carrier, then we opened it and she came slinking out...drooling terribly from the excitement of being cooped up in the carrier for the car ride...so right away, her new momma got a napkin and wiped her mouth and chin and began to pet her and talk with her...tiglet even let her pick her up and she was just purrrring and snuggling right into her new momma... then Tiglet began to explore her new surroundings, then their kitten came in...

Tiglet perked up and went over to the kitten, ready to give a bath I am sure, but the kitten hunkered down and hissed, so Tiglet backed off and went exploring some more...up the stairs and who knows where...
In the meantime, their little one checked out the carrier, and when Tiglet came back downstairs he went to her and they sniffed each other...then went wandering off towards the kitchen together...

I figured she will be okay there...today I got an e-mail asking how to get her out of hiding as her new momma is worried she will become dehydrated if she does not drink anything...I figure when Tiglet is thirsty or hungry enough, she will come out, but I suggested setting some food and water near where she is hiding and let her come out slowly...

Her new momma said she will keep in touch and send me pictures...she was so excited and I know Tiglet has a wonderful new home...

we got another e-mail from her this morning...she said they knew Tiglet was hiding in the basement because they would hear her moving about and using the litterbox they have down there...but they wanted her to at least hide nearer to where they congregate, so after 2 hours of searching the basement, they found her hiding in a box of baby clothes and brought her upstairs, wth the litterbox and closed the basement door for now...she snuggled up to "Momma" and purrrred while being held, and now is hiding either behind the couch or under a chair...
she said her son was extatic to know they had another cat...and he just lays on the couch or the floor nearby and talks softly telling Tiglet "it is okay...don't be afraid...we love kitties..."...
She said her husband reminded her that Smokey hid for about 2 weeks while getting used to his new home, so give her time...but her Momma wants to spoil and love with her...
I know I did right in letting Tiglet go to their home and she will be very happy there once she adjusts...it just takes time...she was with us for 2 years...

Sounds like things are going well - not perfect, but, while I know you hoped it would be, you knew it wasn't likely - especially since she had been with you for so long. (I think it would also upset you greatly if she didn't miss you at all!) I'm glad you were able to find her such a good home.

I got another update on Tiglet...
she has now become queen of this castle!!! It did take a while and a lot of patience but she is doing great now and has fit in wonderfully! She has adjusted to our routine and we can even catch her being loving to Smokey at times. They are still adjusting some I think but getting along better everyday. They have even started playing more together and have found that there is enough room in the bed for both of them at night...lol

I have a small bunch in my daycare right now but they are ALL boys so Tiggy usually sits under the high chair and just watches them or lays on the back on the couch. 3 weeks ago we didn't see her at all till the door shut behind the last one that left, but now she is out all day and participating with the best of them...lol They all love her and she loves getting spoiled by them! She has learned which ones rub her belly the best and which ones give her treats. I had to hide the treats because they were giving to much. Now they all know once lunch is cleaned up it is treat time. I don't know who runs fastest the kitty's or kiddy's...lol

Well....I thought I was going to be bringing Tiglet home today...

My mom found her posted on Freecycle...and not the woman I originally gave her to...

long story short...Tiglet and the other cat never learned to get along, so Tiglet went to live with the woman's mother...

Mom loves Tiglet tremendously...but will be moving in December and has some other things going on in life, so thought it would be best to find her a new home...

I sent them both an e-mail to find out what was going on...have e-mailed with her current owner quite a few times and let her know that we will gladly take Tiglet back if she does not find a suitable home...it was a very emotional decision for her...

Today I was to go get Tiglet...but I never got an address...
I got an e-mail earlier today from her stating that her boyfriend will not let Tiglet go!!...He could not understand her reasoning as to why she wanted to let her go just because they were moving in December...they will just have to look until they find a place that will accept cats...she said Tiglet will continue to be their baby...

But she did give me their address anyways and invited me to come by any time and say hi to Tiglet...we will probably stop in this weekend and meet her new forever Mom...

Ugghhh! Is the mom's relationship with the boyfriend stable? I'd be for checking that out if possible, if she seems the least bit flaky, maybe she isn't the right person for Tiglet.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for people who are willing to give up pets simply because they are moving. Sounds like the boyfriend has some sense about him though. Would it be possible for you to talk to HIM as well?

I am going to go to their house on Sunday to visit with both of them and get a chance to see tiglet for myself...then I will know more...

but I still will keep the offer open that when she moves or wahtever...I WILL bring Tiglet back home...but I told her I moved with Tigger 17 years ago from Tucson to Iowa...he laid on the front dash of the moving truck the entire trip...watching the world go by...and lots more places now will allow cats and small animals, so she should not have a problem...
