I've taken in another foster cat. This one with an abscess on his back paw. It's about twice the size of a regular paw. (looks like a cartoon paw). They lanced it, cleaned it, and put in a drain. He will be on amoxicillin for 10 days. Any advice on keeping him quiet? He was also a stray, and is quite fearful. For now, I have him in a large dog crate with a metal grate type front. He is alone in the spare bedroom because his tests haven't been done yet. They were very clear that his movement is to be restricted. Won't that drive him crazy?

Re: Abscess on back paw
With an abcess that size, and painful as it must be, he will probably self-limit his activity...however, I'd advise asking your vet for an e-collar to ensure he doesn't lick at, or pull at the drain. Watch the area closely for any signs of increased swelling, sloughing of the skin, increased pain, etc.
Keep his food/water dishes nearby, and his litterbox nearby also (although not close to the food dishes)...watch the paw to make sure he doesn't get litter stuck in the wound. ..followup as your vet advised (drain removal usually in 5-7 days or so)
Spend lots of time with him, but don't encourage activity...keep a night-lite on for him at night.
