Cat open mouth
I just wanted to know if that was normal. My cat seem to open her mouth half of time while i was petting her and I dont know if it something to do letting me know that she happy or there something wrong with her nose or anything I am just little worry and just wanted to know if that was normal if not can you tell me what to do. I never see her open her mouth while she walking around or anything just only while i was petting her.
Re: Cat open mouth
What is she doing when her mouth is open? Is she breathing strangely? How old is she and when was her last vet checkup?

I read that they do that so they can smell something better. Don't know if that's true or an old wive's tale.

Bottom line is that any time you are unsure of something, get kitty to your vet, better safe than sorry. Your description is too vague and we can't see your kitty, so it could actually be more serious than your post implies, for this reason, get her seen by your vet.

Yea I will do that. Just to be safe. That kinda weird but funny if that was true lol.... I will Call them soon as possible and I just hope Anna was right so nothing bad happen to trouble.
Re: Cat open mouth
well i doubt she needs to go to a vet im sure its just the smelling thing too. cats do try and get a better smell of things by opening their mouths.
Re: Cat open mouth
heyleym, when a post contains vague information about a symptom, we prefer to advise the cat is seen by a vet, particularly for owners who do not recognize common symptoms of illness. It is better to be safe in seeing a vet, than sorry for not getting a health condition diagnosed properly.

Trouble is going to see vet on Wednesday. I am keeping eyes on her and watch her breathing and if something going wrong she will go to emergency vet....
Re: Cat open mouth
If everything turns out to be okay you should know that cats also have a unique mechanism at the top of their mouth, a pair of organs called Jacobson's organs or the vomeronasal organs. These organs enable them to make a special analysis of certain air molecules by letting the cat analyze air that is inhaled through the mouth rather than the nose.
When a cat uses this special mechanism she curls back her lips, opens her mouth and seems to grimace with a smile or an expression of disgust. This usually lasts for a few seconds and is called the flehmen reaction and is seen in connection with special scents that the cat wants to check thoroughly or stores in their long term memory.
