White lump on my kitten's lower lip.

Post by mcsilvio »

My kitten has acquired a whiteish lump on her lower lip. it wasnt there yesterday and now its pretty big (2mm around approximately). I poked it with a sharp pin (i was very careful with her) to see if it was puss that needed to be drained. but it didnt appear to be. well, atleast thats what i thought. i didnt want to puncture the wound too deeply (i didnt want to cause her any pain of course). is this something obvious? or something i should just wait out?

Get her to your vet immediately. It could be anything from an abcess to an eosinophilic granuloma, only your vet can determine upon an exam. Either way, it's most likely painful to her, so get it checked immediately.

Do not EVER use a pin or needle or anything else to puncture a lesion, you could cause more harm by inducing bacterial infection and serious harm to tissues!

The longer you wait, the more serious and painful it could get for her.

Ask a family member or friend for help, you can pay them back later. An exam fee is relatively affordable, and your kitten is depending on you to get her seen and treated.

when you take on a pet, you also take on the financial responsibility of getting medical attention when necessary...and many times we forgoe our own needs to put the animal before us...
Most vets will take post dated checks as well...

Let us know what the vet says...

she was a gift. i had no intention on getting a cat. ive spoken to a friend who works at a vets office and says that this is a common case of chin acne developed from eating out of a plastic bowl. she said they see it all the time.

You can't assume your friend "diagnosed" because she probably didn't see the 2 mm in size bump that you described. Feline acne rarely presents such large postules, but rather tiny bumps and darkened spots around the mouth and chin area. The size of the bump you describe demands to be seen by a vet. Don't take your friend's word for it, she's not a vet, and only a vet can diagnose through a thorough exam.

If for example, this was an eosinophilic granuloma, it will worsen without treatment, and it can reoccur again and again. Try to imagine a lesion or postule so large that it is extremely painful for your kitten....get her examined immediately please and don't rely on others to diagnose your kitten.

Apparently when cat's get infections in any part of their body (internal even) their lip is what swells up. My cat had a tooth infection in the back of his mouth and his front bottom lip swelled.

If you can't afford to take the little guy to the vet, find someone else to take him or find places that help donate monies. My vet is only $30 for an office visit and very understanding of financial woes. I hope you can find one like mine.

Good luck!
