ear infections

Post by diamondklp »

Poor Ozzy, my Basset Puppy has an ear infection, I can tell by his discomfort and the odor, but my vet can't get me in to the office until tommarrow at 4:00pm. Just wondering if there is anything that I can do to make him more comfortable, or if this warrents an emergency visit to the emergency vet clinic....he is acting normal and peppy and is eating etc. okay. Just wondering if anyone has any advice. Thanks :)

I think I'd advised taking him in to the emergency vet, if necessary. I unfortunately know from experience how awful and painful ear infections can be (I'm TOO OLD to keep getting them, according to me!)

here's a good site on ear care which may be helpful after you've seen your vet:::

If he has no fever and there is no purulent discharge (pus) coming from the ear, I would have no problem waiting until tomorrow if it were one of my dogs. While not a fun thing, it's most likely otitis externa ("swimmers' ear" in humans) or ear mites, and it will not hurt to wait one day.
