Herbal Cat Collars

Post by Ang »

I just started letting my kitten out and he's come back with tons of ticks. I desperately need to find a flea and tick collar but don't want to use any with pesticides. Can anyone recommend any? I know they sell a One Earth Collar at the pet store. Does anyone have experience with it?
Thanks.

We recommend INDOOR ONLY
Please read this link and you will undertand why...

Otherwise...NO flea/tick collar is safe for cats...even the natural herbal "remedies" are harmful to cats...IF you need to treat for fleas and ticks, I would only use Frontline or Advantage at the recommendation of your vet, and purchased through your vet...the doseage is based on weight/size of the cat...

My vet gave me Revolution. Is that on the approved list as well, or should I request something different?

silvrwhispr...I will leave your question for Traci or Davet to answer...I am not a vet or a tech and I just do not know about Revolution...

My vet carries Frontline, so that is what I use,

Because of problems they were seeing the vets in my area do not recommend Revolution. The FDA may take it off of the market. Frontline Plus or Advantics, regular Advantage only protects against fleas not ticks and regular Frontline is not as effective against Fleas.

What were the problems they were seeing with Revolution? Izzy's an indoor only cat, and the fleas she had didn't come back. And I haven't noticed any health problems. What do I need to be concerned about?

As far as I know, Revolution is safe for cats...it protects against fleas, hookworms, roundworms, and includes protection against heartworm.

However, for an indoor-only cat, I would suggest Advantage or Frontline from your vet.

Ang, please read the link Tambrey provided in its entirety, also read Just Say No...herbal collars/remedies/etc can be harmful to pets and most are useless and ineffective anyway.

my kittens have fleas now. I took a kitten to my moms house, and didnt realize her cat had fleas. Her cat is an indoor cat too. They probably got dragged in from my parents clothes since they do alot of work outside.

Ive been vacuuming twice a day, and giving the cats a bath with cat shampoo every week. The fleas seem to have gone done quite a bit, but i think im gonna buy some medicine. I almost bought flea collars yesterday, but decided against them. Im glad i did!

remax...Ask your vet for advantage for kittens...I find that works really well...along with the vacuuming...but do not give any more baths...

You can also get a flea comb and a cup of water with some dawn dishsoap in it and comb through their fur, or when you pick one off, drop it into the liquid...

BTW...put a flea collar INSIDE the vacuum cleaner bag to kill the little buggers you do suck up...elsewise they will hop their way right back out of the vacuum...
