Where do they hide?
Does anyone else's cat hide in places that you're convinced don't really exist in your house? I looked for Izzy for an hour last night and could *not* find her. I was panicked; I knew she couldn't get out, but I didn't know where she was. I was afraid she had somehow gotten into a vent or something (even though they're all securely covered) or even in the garbage disposal (which is too small to fit even her head, but I looked anyway). I shined a flashlight under every piece of furniture, behind every appliance. I opened every drawer in both bureaus (because she's already figured out that she can climb up in them, so we have to be SUPER careful opening drawers unless we know for sure she's not in them). That cat was nowhere in this house. And then out of nowhere, she's standing in the middle of the living room floor, chattering and purring, presenting her catnip mouse to me for play time.
I have no idea where she was! I really can't figure it out. Does anyone else have cats that do this? Is anyone else convinced that cats know portals to alternate dimensions that humans can't access?
PS - The sunrise this morning has been gorgeous. I just felt like sharing that.

Yes, it is a secret amoung all cats, a secret protected for thousands of years and no human will ever discover it...slvrwhispr wrote:Is anyone else convinced that cats know portals to alternate dimensions that humans can't access?
..........Traci
I've not owned cats, but my brother has had 4 over the past several years (unfortunately, due to illness and old age, he now has only one left), and a couple of them have been masters at hiding. One, Fluffy, a white long-hair, could hide in plain sight. She would become the 'kitty figurine' in the living room. If you just glanced in, you would not think it was a real cat. Did you try behind the curtains - when she really wanted to hide, she would get inside the fold of the floor-length curtains (also in the living room) and you would not find her unless you moved the curtain. How about up high (tops of bookcases and tall dressers?) Closet? - LOTS of places to hide there! (in a boot?)
E's is convinced her Q is from another dimension, and his latest adventure (and survival) with Hurricane Katrina pretty much proves it!

This thread has me laughing...another dimension! I don't have cats now, but did have 2 a while back. I found Patches on top of a drapery rod once...scarey, as she had a medical condition which caused her to lose her balance at times. Another time in the process of moving, I couldn't find her and feared she had gotten out. When we went back the next day after things had calmed down, we found her on top of the heating ducts in the basement.

Re: Where do they hide?
Well, the "house" is really a small apartment. There's only one level, and only a certain number of places she could get. She's still too small to be very adept at jumping, so the only high places she could get would be ones she could climb to, and I checked all those. There aren't any drapes, just vertical blinds, and they're open all the way anyhow, so there's no hiding place there. Crazy cat. Cody used to jump up onto the dresser and then get on the open bedroom door, but Izzy's nowhere near that acrobatic yet. I really don't know. It's driving me crazy, though.
Well, let me shed some light on this mystery! It's not really a mystery, just a trick and a little skill ....
Last night my cat Noodle got a phone call from your Izzy, I heard her whispering and giggling, and I was wondering what the two where being secretive about! Now I know! Noodle of course told your Izzy the age old best cat hiding place, where none of us unenlightened humans would ever guess ...
It's the bed covers! At least that's where we found Noodle once, sleeping soundly, after just such a frantic, heart pounding search. The covers had been loosely thrown on the bed and she just slipped between and below them. Just by looking at them you would have never guessed there was a cat underneath.
So, now you know. Next time check the bed
Oops! Gotta go! Noodle's coming and I spilled the beans ....

Re: Where do they hide?
Hahahaha! That cracked me up. But here's the thing -- the doors to the bedroom had been closed (because of the aforementioned bureau hiding trick) after I knew she was out in the kitchen eating a late dinner. So I knew she couldn't be in the bedroom (looked anyway). No, her portal is definitely in the living room somewhere. I'll figure it out one of these days!

Re: Where do they hide?
I have yaffa blocks in my bedroom that I keep clothes in. They are basically bins that you stack on top of each other but are open with no fronts to them. The other day I got out the shower and I was bending down to get some clothes and I heard purring. I looked down at the floor but no one was there. When I started to take my clothes out I saw a little kitty who had buried himself deep in the back of my clothes. I guess he decided this was a good napping place.
Re: Where do they hide?
Well, maybe Noodle told her about her other and even better hiding place - my husband's rucksack. She loves to crawl in there and nap.
Noodle knows them all!

I can go one better. Ebony - A medium sized dog hid in the house one night and we were frantically searching everywhere for her. I checked outside in case she had snuck out and gotten lost. I searched along the fence to see if she had dug a hole under it. Everything was secure out there.
Then I got an idea how to get her. I went into the kitchen and opened a can of tuna fish. No sooner had I started opening the can when she magically appeared with the others looking for a special treat!
