Help...two cats not getting along

Hi, first time poster. I have two indoor cats...Cat A is a five-year-old female, Cat B is a three-year-old male. They've lived together since Cat B was a kitten.

It took awhile for Cat A to accept Cat B, but I expected that. But, they turned into best of buddies.

HOWEVER, this weekend, I took Cat B to the vet by himself. In the past, I've always taken them together, but Cat B need to go because of a cut he had on his side

He was gone one hour.

Since he's been back, Cat A does nothing but hiss and growl at Cat B as though she's never seen him before. This has been going on for 36 hours now. I'm surprised by this (but maybe I shouldn't?). I thought Cat A would have missed Cat B and welcomed him home, but I was very wrong. She's miserable and just hates him. Is there anything I can do besides letting them work this out? Cat B is devasated at this...he has such a sad look on his cute face. What's causing Cat A to act like this?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated...I'm losing lots of sleep over this.

That usually happens when one goes to the vet, or anywhere...mine are the same way...

they return with "strange smells" that makes them unrecognizable to the cat(s) who stayed home...give them a day or two and all should be fine...

as frustrating as it is for you to deal with right now...they will soon work it out on their own...if their arguing is causing you to lose sleep, you can try putting the instigator into a timeout room (bathroom) for a little while and then re-introduce them again with supervision...

Yes, Tambrey is right, this is quite normal. You are not the first experiencing this.

You could try rubbing Cat A with a towel and then rub Cat B with it, so he starts smelling 'right' again.
