The picture of Joseph in the deserted French Quarter was taken after he was refused entry to the Superdome the night before Katrina devastated New Orleans, because of Patches. Rather than give her up, they spent the night of the storm outside. The next day he was allowed in the Superdome with her.
On Sun. Sept. 4th, he was being evacuated with Patches on his shoulders. As he was boarding the bus, they Nat'l Guard took her away, but assured him she'd be taken care of. Joseph believed him, otherwise never would have left her. Joseph, not seeing the news on TV, had no idea the magnitude of the disaster, thinking he'd be back to New Orleans to pick her up soon. He also said "all the guards knew her by then". He trusted them or never would have gotten on that bus. We're hoping the guard gave her to a rescue group, if any were at the Superdome on Sept 4th around 2pm (the guard took her into the Hyatt according to Joseph).
Patches is around 7 months old and missing an eye. Her one eye is blue.

Searching for Patches the cat from New Orleans
Re: Searching for Patches the cat from New Orleans
Did you register with the different rescue organisations and contact the shelters in the area? If a guard took her surely she ended up in one of those. Please search this forum, there are several organisations and links mentioned, so you can contact them. I wish you and Patches best of luck!!

Re: Searching for Patches the cat from New Orleans
In the first days after Katrina, many pets were taken to a Houston shelter....this gentleman needs to contact all the shelters in the area, (Houston, Gonzales, etc), and ask the LA-SPCA and HSUS for help in getting information on which shelters to check from rescues that took place in the first couple days....(I believe LA-SPCA and HSUS were on the scene first, and should be able to help him reunite with his kitty)

Good Luck, we have had over 100 animals come through our shelter in the last week.
Re: Searching for Patches the cat from New Orleans
Thanks everyone. I will pass this over to the people who are doing the leg work.
Most of the shelters have been contacted that I am aware of. She is listed on petfinder and such as well. we know she was taken from him at the superdome by the hyatt by a nat' guard. The hyatt has been contacted and are trying to find out what rescues were there that day.
There have been some offers from people in the are to look and one member of our "search" team is getting ready to go there to search as well.
I will post if we find her. Purr for Patches to be found.
