Davet, JDF et'al...freckles on Rangers tummy?

Post by S&R's Mom »

Hi All,

While hubby was holding our 96lb Golden Ranger in his lap a few nights ago, we noticed "all of a sudden" it seems, freckle like spots all over his groin area. They are not raised, color of a raisin. Many many of them - really just like freckles. The thing we don't understand and that has us a bit worried is that how does a dog get freckles on the groin/tummy area when the sun is not exposed there and the hair protects the skin? OR could this be something we have never heard of? fingers crossed of course that its not but do you have any ideas..ever heard of this before? He is acting perfectly - nothing has changed AT ALL - other than the freckle things. Oh, and they don't come off, I tried to scrape them with my finger as if they were dirt but they're not.
Thanks all.

petechial hemorrhages which these freckle looking thing might be....a thousand miles away it is kinda hard to see but if these are new spots might be good to check them out....

Davet - are there any symptoms associated with this?

Ranger is acting completely normal - playing, eating, sleeping, doing all the things he does.

sebaceous follicles that have picke up dirt...try rubbing with alcohol and if they come off then thats is what they are....they could also be normal pigmentation spots(freckles) etc etc...Petechia could be from any number of blood diseases, with or without symptons...kinda hard to tell this far away but try a little alcohol rub.....any thing is a guess and could lead you wrong..

this is probably in left field but you might want to consider having Ranger's thyroid function checked - a low thyroid can cause hyper-pigmentation. I think Goldens are prone to hypothyroidism, BTW.

Best of luck finding a soultion.
