Cough and cold

Post by Ash »

Can dogs and cats get a cold from us when we have one? We both are having a cold, my husband is just through with his and I'm just starting - some temperature and a hacking cough. I got it from him :x - can the animals get it from us too?

Just wondering ...

Fortunately I do, since work is scheduled to be send next week.

100.8 temperature and I hardly slept :( I feel like something the cat brought in, as they say in England (do you have that expression over there)?

The one I've heard here is "you look like something the cat dragged in." I guess you could feel like that too. Anyway, I get the picture. When Honey was young and I still let her outside, she would bring in lizards and grasshoppers, and once even a mouse, then put them in the tub to play with them. I hope you don't feel like that!

I did! I was for two days in bed with fever up to 102.

I had the doctor round and he prescribed tablets he described as being "just below antibiotics" :? When I asked him what that is supposed to mean, he said, they are are "mild antibiotics" (it's roxithromycin). When I asked him if I had maybe strep he didn't know what I mean, he said said I had a 'viral infection'. In that case antibiotics wouldn't help, would they? :? But I was too tired and exhausted to argue with him. He also told me not to eat "oil, ice and guavas"

I'm just writing this down here for the people who always hear me moaning about the Indian vets. The human doctors aren't any better!

Thankfully the fever is gone and I feel a little better today, still coughing and sneezing like a world champion though.

The cats and dogs really missed me. I remember Tommy trying to get me out of bed and play with him once in the night by gently biting my arms and toes!

Glad to hear you're on the mend. :D Sometimes if I'm coughing or sneezing a lot, the doctor will give me antibiotics because he thinks a bacterial infection is in my lungs or sinuses. I guess it happens along with the virus that causes the cold. Or maybe the virus weakens you, and the bacteria just take over. Anyway, it isn't that uncommon for me to get secondary infections. The love from my pets helps as much as the pills. Hope yours are helping you!

one thing that makses cat and kids colds at the same time is the same environmental "stresses" ie change in weather.etc..So many times i had clients call me up and say that their kid or kids had a cold and their cat or dog had a cold and what should they do...So i would ask them "what did your pediatriciaon say?"....the universal response was that they had not called about their kids but seemed more worried about their pets.
