Hair loss and stuff

My cat has had a huge knot of hair on her left side for about a month, we were unable to brush it apart. A week ago the hair knot was almost gone (it was hanging by a thread as if it got snagged on something and ripped off) and there was a patch of skin there but it looked healthy. Well today I noticed the skin had a section of it that was crusty yellow in color. Im wondering if that is a disease or just a scab where she ripped all that hair out of her skin.

get some healing ointment(panalog or others) to rub on it to enhance healing but the next time she gets a clump like this.Take a comb and slide it under the clump then cut it off...do not do this without a comb under because nothing vets like more than to be called up at
2am to sew a big elipitical cut from someone who decided to groom their cat at this hour....be sure you have a comb under the clump....please.

It could just be a sort of abrasion resulting from the mat when it was so close to the skin. But, when in doubt, always best to see your vet. Abrasions caused by fur mats usually are red or brown in color, not yellow. Check other areas of her skin color and pigmentation (i.e., on her belly, should be pink or white, not yellow)

She had another knot on her otherside but I removed it leaving a small ammount there because i couldnt cut it without wounding her. She is now starting to lick this part off. The skin looks normal i guess, its a whiteish color (shes a light gray and white cat), but so did the skin under the huge knot until today. I hope its nothing serious. Ill give it a day or two and if it doesnt heal and/or the other skin blotch turns yellow im going to the vet.

Also forgot to note that not all of her skin is yellow. Just a small oval area thats about half the size of the bald area. The rest is a kind of whiteish color.

change by tuesday or if it looks worse get it checked....but don't forget the use of the comb, under any mat

What looked like a yellowish gold scab is apparently just that. It started to peel today and I suspect it will be gone by tomorrow (Tuesday). If it is and the skin under it looks healthy im not gonna bother with seeing the vet.
