My Mom is THRILLED to death!
My Mom is THRILLED to death!
Last year, she had to put her Skeezix to rest after having him with her for over 15 years...she has been holding out for another daschshund, and today my brother saw an ad in the paper, so we called...the vet in a neighboring town had one brought in...a stray...and no one called to claim her, so he was going to have to put her down...well, one of the teenagers who volunteers there said no way and adopted her...she has had her for a week, but will be elaving for college and her mom said with so many other animals and 8 people living in the household (BIG house) they could not keep the dog...so they put an ad in the paper...
Mom brought home one year old Sohpia today...she is an adorable little red miniature daschshund...we will be babysitting tonight because mom proofreads for the local newspaper and does not want to leave Sophia alone in the house, so is bringing her down here...
I will get some pics of her tonight...

How nice! It's always good to hear when a stray found a loving home at last. What she must have been through?
Re: My Mom is THRILLED to death!
We are not sure what all she went through....we do know she is a little over a year old...she was found as a stray, but the teen working there recognized her and called the owners...they had gotten her from someone else who had to move, but they were having troubles with her, so when she "escaped" they did not bother to go looking and did not want her back...
My mom found scars on either side of her neck from a collar or some sort of restraint, we assume...she had fleas, so our vet treated her with Frontline...we did get paperwork from the original vet that he gave her a 1 year rabies shot, but nothing else, and our vet could not believe that the other vet would not have given a distemper as well, so he wanted to hold off on that until he called the vet to talk with him...he tried while we were there but the other office was still closed for lunch (small towns)...
So we will probably have to take Sophia back for that...but Mom really wants to socialize her...Mom's last daschshund was not too sociable, but this little girl is so far, and mom wants to keep her that way...she will come visit at our house often, and Mom has friends who have a daschshund as well, so Sophia will get to go play with Cuddles on a regular basis
Sophia will be a very spoiled and much loved little dog from here on out

So this will be her fourth home? If she's a happy and sociable soul she's lucky. When our Shida turned up first around our house 9 years ago she was about 2 years old and very frightened and nervous. Every time I tried to touch her she would scream and pee. It took her years to trust us. Now she's the cuddliest teddy bear there is! But she still pees when she gets nervous about something. And she is scared to death of crackers (New Year etc). We will never know why she became such a nervous dog.
Sophia is a nice name. My grandmother is called that too.

I like Sophia...that is the name she already had, acocrding to what they found out from phone calls, so we decided to just keep it...she has been through enough changes, let alone a name change as well...
Re: My Mom is THRILLED to death!
Wow, sounds like both your Mom and Sophia lucked out! Can't wait to see pics!
Re: My Mom is THRILLED to death!

Re: My Mom is THRILLED to death!
There ya go we did find more scarring around her throat while taking the pictures...Mom is going to get a halter for her instead, and we found a car booster seat thta has aplace to latch the collar/harness also, so Sophia can go with Mom wherever she goes
We also want to have the vet check her, because she was a stray, and her nipples are very prominant...I hope she is not pregnant, and especially since we do not know what kind of dog the father would be...so if she is, we may have to consider surgery I hate to do that, but we cannot risk her safety not knowing...
Funny thing is...DH fell in love with her and now he wants one!! hahaha...
