Even MORE Boring pics....
Not exciting like some others posted here. I guess I will start with the most boring (oldest) first. This willl introduce the crew to those who don't already know them.
Dottie. An attempt at a good Nose shot.
Inky her daughter. Now that is an expression. Inky was born at the shelter.Dottie was brought to the shelter when she "Got herself" pregnant from thier intact male dalmatian. They were going to put them both down when the Parish took over the shelter from the Humane Society. Dottie is now 16 and Inky 12.
Prissy. Not too bad with her arthritis lately. She was abandoned at the vet's office just when Bear died. Tippy went nuts and was tearing up the house, The remedy was to take in another dog to keep Tippy company. It worked, Tippy stopped tearing up the house, in part because Prissy was doing a much better job of it. She is now 12.
Mr. Dawg. Doing great! Had fun in his bath today. He was hit by a car and wandered into my yard while I was outside with Tippy and Prissy. THe rest as they say is history. He is also 12.
Ginger. This is her "Hot Spot" Season, but the benadryl and baths seem to be helping this year. She got a bath today after the pics. She was brought to our house by naeighborhood kids when they found her sick, starving and freezing to death one cold December morning. After she was healthy and cured some people came by and said she was their dog. I said fine, pay the vet bills and you can have her. I handed her the bills for over $300 we had spent on treating her and they hastily departed. She is now 11.
Coco, she is feeling perky lately too. She was from a Puppy mill. No more need be said. Her age is unknown, but at least 10.
A double dose of Mr. Prince, who got a bath right after these were taken. He was from the shelter too. Some people were trying to adopt him that we didn't like. We adopted him first. He is now 5.
Apache also got a bath after the pics today. She keeps trying to get me to let her go outside and roll in the dirt! She is from the shelter too. She was a puppy scheduled to be put down because of over crowding. She is 5 also.
Sweet Pea is smiling because she escaped the Bath Monster today! Her story is too long to repeat in totality here. Short version. She was being adopted, but had heartworms. We were fostering during the heartworm treatment. It turned out that she was also preggers. ONce the puppers were born and she was cured of heartworms the adopter decided they didn't want her any more. Her age is unknown and none of the vets want to venture a guess due to the condition of her teeth when we got her. Guesses range from 6 to 10, but her teeth indicate a much greater age.
Bernie wasn't so lucky. He is one of Sweet Pea's pups as are the remaining 3 dogs. They were all born on September 4, 2001. Just one week before the attack on the trade center.
Neither was Ebony!
Pea Pod Escaped!
And so did little Ivory!

Re: Even MORE Boring pics....
Coco is one of our special needs doggies and consequently is seldom outside with the others while I am taking pictures. It turns out her bones were severely weakened due to poor nutritian while she was having puppies. After we got her, whe was in the yard one day having a great old time chasing and jumping after dragonflies. Unfortunately, her weakened back could not take this type of activity and it broke. She was operated on by the best neurological vet in the area and underwent therapy for over a year, but there was only partial recovery of the control of her legs. She can stand to eat or drink, but collapses when she goes to walk. We tried a wheelchair, but the other dogs attack the wheels so our vet recommended that we just let her drag herself along. The main problem we have with this is at least every 3 to 4 months she gets a UTI.
Re: Even MORE Boring pics....
I suspected as much, in your first post, her position looked as if she had little use of her rear legs.
Does she develop calluses as a result of the dragging?

Re: Even MORE Boring pics....
Yes she has developed callouses and frankly she gets around almost as well as those that have full function of their legs. To get on the sofa She will first stand then bounce her front legs on the platform. and then scoot to the sofa. She then repeats the proceedure to get on the sofa. She learned this on her own without any teaching or assistance from us.

It must be fun to be at your house on Bath Day. Then at night, you guys must really be exhausted!!!
Re: Even MORE Boring pics....
Well, I'm sure you know what's best for her, but perhaps maybe offer more protection for her with socks or something...if the calluses ever open and create a soft wound, ask your vet for a topical to ease irritation and to prevent bacterial infection. (bag balm might even be an option, ask your vet)

Aaaawww, Sceptic, I'm so touched by all these stories! You (and your wife I assume) are angles!
But what did you mean by "Bernie wasn't so lucky .... Neither was Ebony! ... Pea Pod Escaped!" etc?
A thought: could you have Coco wear little panties to prevent UTI?

Re: Even MORE Boring pics....
Bernie and Ebony got baths, Peapod and Ivory escaped the bath monster then. THe monster will return today to finish the job started yesterday!
Actually she gets the UTI, when she 'sneaks' outside after a rain. (She will scoot out while under Mr. Dawg or Dottie so we don't see her going out. I don't think panties would help then.)
