Is it too early to get another cat or cats?

Post by Jalks2 »

My beloved 18 year old Bob (Image) died sometime last night. He had gone blind and deaf in the last few months, and started losing fur.

Anyway, my family is all very sad, but we miss the company of our cat. I want to adopt a few kittens soon, but my younger sister seems very traumatized by Bob's death and and hates the idea of getting a new cat or cats. What should I do?

What a beautiful boy, I am so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you....

How old is your sister? Is she very young? If so, you must give her the necessary time to grieve before considering bringing in another kitten(s) or cat into the home. If she is not ready to love another kitty, she may not give the new kitten(s) or cat the attention they deserve, and it's entirely possible she could resent them.

Talk to her and listen to her, find out how she is dealing with the loss, and try to support her as best that you can. I'm sure that in a short amount of time, she will come to terms and be accepting of a new kitten or cat and will be able to love again. When you feel she may be ready, take her to your local animal shelter, and I'm sure that between the two of you, you'll find the perfect kittens or cats to adopt

Again, I'm very sorry for your loss, it sounds like Bob was very loved and cherished.......Safe and gentle journey, sweet Bob......

I'm very sorry for your loss! Bob looks very beautiful.

In my personal experience, it takes me about a month to get over the worst feelings of grieve, then I slowly start to accept that he/she is gone. But everybody is different.

In any case, give her time to grieve, maybe bring the subject of kittens up after 2 or 3 weeks, earliest.
