Traci,
sorry to take so long with reply, it was cat scratch disease and diagnosed thru blood work done on our older cat. Cinder and our 2 older cats are all responding very well to the zithromax, it has been nothing short of a miracle and I must thank everyone for their prayers cause they are the ones to make this miracle happen!! God has listened and answered.
Our little Cinder is out of isolation and getting to know everyone in the house and ouir little ones, cats And Dogs are all reacting favorably to her. Thanks again so much!!
help our Cinder
Re: help our Cinder
I would suspect that Cinder's initial health problems were singular in nature, isolated, had a lowered immune system and may not have had anything to do with bartonella henselae at all. Most cats will test positive for henselae because they are latent carriers, but treatment for this condition is not always necessary (it may be for humans who have bite wounds from an infected cat)
For what it's worth, I would start looking for a new vet. Preferrably a feline-only vet or certainly one more experienced in feline medicine. Also, please do not rely on the shelter or a shelter vet for any future care of Cinder or any of your other cats. Your primary vet is more qualified and better equiped. Again, I suggest finding a feline-only vet, you will have peace of mind and your kitties will receive better care as a result of more experience from the vet.
