Today Crystal stopped eating her Solid Gold kibble. I heard that dogs hate the taste of it but Crystal has gone through almost 3 bags and then shut down completely. She started spitting it out on the kitchen floor and then actually refused her meal.
Since I was at the end of the bag anyway.......I tried to find another kibble that has the same ingredients and I got California Natural. When I came home I mixed it with the Solid Gold and she ate everything.
I wonder what got into her. She never turned food away before.

JMO, but I'd never recommend Solid Gold, and I've also heard many owners have the same problem, dog seems to like it at first but suddenly will refuse to eat it.
You might want to take a good look at the ingredient list and try to look for offending ingredients. This does not necessarily mean meat sources, etc, but rather supplements, etc.

Re: Crystal's on strike
The Solid Gold has multiple protein sources vs. California Natural's one protein source (lamb).
Her skin did well on the Solid Gold. Her coat was beautiful and shiny, but we had some time getting her adjusted to it. We stuck with it through almost 2 weeks of soft stool and morning nausea. The first few days she had trouble keeping her breakfast down. She had a great deal of gas.....which, on a 90 lb. dog isn't pretty.
So far, she's made the transition to California Natural without any trouble at all.

Hope you don't mind me asking but why did you continue with this food if she had such problems with it?CrystalsMom wrote: We stuck with it through almost 2 weeks of soft stool and morning nausea. No, I don't mind at all......Crystal had problems with chin and interdigital dermatitis, which we suspected was due to allergies. Solid Gold was recommended for dogs with skin problems because it is corn/wheat/soy/preservative free. I would've tried anything if it would help her itchiness and I wanted to give her a chance to adjust to it. It did help many of her problems, but then she just stopped eating it.
It's a shame because she seemed to improve. I'll try the California Natural and hope that she continues to do well. The ingredients are almost identical. There are less ingredients in the California Natural.

Okay, I understand. Less ingredients somehow sounds better to me for a cat with allergies. Good luck!
Re: Crystal's on strike
Actually, if the Solid Gold had "several" protein sources, this could have been the problem, that is, if Crystal is allergic to a particular protein source.
