Greyhouds may be euthanized....if any one in the north east would consider adopting one here is the site...if we didn't have sassy and a small condo we would get one but not enough room...they make great pets :

I have long wanted a greyhound... hear they make do make wonderful pets and it is a shame they can't all find homes, but there are a lot of people working on this... I've seen lovely greyhounds with rescue groups at PetsMart both here and in Austin... the Gulf Coast Greyhound website wasn't active last time I checked, but the Central Texas one is.

I'm sure Winnie would love having such a companion. Alas, for me it isn't living in a condo but that I am so crippled up and live by myself... am at present just barely able to do right by the pets I have, and my dog isn't getting enough exercise... sigh

PS: I didn't know until recently that they are called greyhounds because the breed was developed by a man named Grey... doesn't have to do with the color gray

I remember a friend of mine had a mini greyhound rescue in her backyard in Tucson years ago...not sure if she still does...but they had a racetrack out there, and she took as many as she could to find homes for...

I hope all these guys can find loving homes...I never agreed with the racing anyways...

I am certainly with you on that, Tambrey, but must say I do not know much about it. I don't like horse racing as much as I did when I was young, because of stuff I heard some years ago... yet the sport is regulated closely and the fact remains the sport helps keep whole lines of beautiful animals viable. One would hope dog racing is also regulated so that earlier abuses are not tolerated... maybe I can look into it. Many, many years ago when we were stationed in Pensacola, I went with some women friends to the greyhound race track in Mobile, Alabama... Strange, I recall the women and the drive over and back quite well, but almost nothing about the races I was a very sensitive young woman who loved animals... perhaps I have blocked it out; or else there was nothing obvious to indicate ill treatment and my interests were mainly in horses, so I simply did not pay attention. I think maybe that dog track is still there - as I say,will look into it and see if there has been any recent outcry or reports...
