I have two kittens, and they are totally different!

Post by dawny224 »

I found two kittens which I believe to be about 3 wks. old. They both eat great, but are so very different!! One is real laid back, and the other one screams and yells like it has never been fed. I feed them both the same amount, I just don't know if there is something wrong with either of them! :?

What are you feeding them and are you feeding them often?

I suggest a vet exam for both, your vet can tell you their general health status, whether or not they need more nutrition, etc.

Hi,
I'm also curious as to what you're feeding them since they are so young. When mine was that little she was still nursing. I'm surprised they can eat solid food (if in fact they do). They sell milk formulated for kittens in the petstore. Maybe try that.

Thank you for your input, they are okay now. The only thing is, they are getting diarrhea a lot. But other than that, they seem fine with the KMR I've been feeding them.

If they get a lot of diarrhea they are not okay! Please bring them to a vet for a check up.

diarrhea is not good to have...I too, would suggest a vet visit, especially if they have not been to one yet!

Are you using KMR powder or ready made?...the ready made must be used in a very short time so I recommend the powder and bottled water as you can mix just what you need for that feeding...

Are you stimulating them to go potty after every feeding?...a cotton ball with warm water wiped over their bottom and belly does this, and it is a MUST to do every time...

How often are you feeding?...they should be fed every 2-3 hours around the clock...day and night...

Do they have a warm safe place to stay?...the best I found was some old towels or baby blankets (receiving blanket kinds) and soda bottles kept filled with very warm water and tucked in under the blankets to form a little nest for them...and a soft small stuffed animal to snuggle with...and be sure the "nest" is away from drafty areas...I always kept baby kittens in the bathroom...

I also keep a notebook with the amount eaten each feeding and the time fed, when they went potty and maybe about how much, and our vet would let me bring them in every 3-4 days to be weighed at no charge...and if he was not busy, would give them a quick once over while there, again at no charge...

Good luck and keep us posted on progress...
