Crystal's Limping
Crystal got hurt again...but this time I suspect it's serious. She was extra rambunctious on Easter when we brought her over to my MIL's. Yesterday, she couldn't get comfortable and then last night refused to put her rear leg down. She was lying down like a frog with both knees up.
I have to call the vet and bring her in today when my husband gets home from work. I think she may have Hip Dysplasia. Even though her breeder had OFA clearance, I always thought she had a strange gait for a Doberman, which I attributed to her being large boned. Also, when she gets really wild, she runs like a rabbit ~ which is another symptom of dysplasia. She's only 14 months old.

Yes ~ I have a 5:20 appt. today. I need my husband's help to get her in to the vet because she's 85 lbs. and can't jump into my SUV.
They told me that if it is the hip and it needs to be X-rayed, I'll have to leave her overnight because it has to be done on an empty stomach.

Re: Crystal's Limping
Thank goodness Crystal doesn't have hip dysplasia....she just has the biggest butt in the N.Y. metro area. She weighed in at 88# today.
Luckily, Crystal started putting some weight on her leg and stopped changing positions 900 times by late afternoon. The vet didn't really say what it was except that she must have somehow injured the leg while running around wild in the yard. Also, I told him how she got under my bed last week and acted like she was in a swimming pool. He kept feeling her knee. He gave her a glucosamine shot and a week's supply of Rimadyl (1x day). We have to go back in on Sat. for a follow up. He told me we need to keep her leashed and she can't go running around loose in the yard until it heals completely.
She is really wild.....and when she gets that way, I have no control of her. She won't come or listen to me, it's almost like she's possessed.
She's 14 months old and they started a second folder on her at the vet's office already.

Glad she's ok. I have to try and rein in Honey also...she has a bad leg and is 12 and acts like a puppy. Tonight she was running madly after a rabbit in the yard - but she is such a good girl she actually came home when I called her. For that she got a little peanut butter reward!!
Re: Crystal's Limping
That's good news, Shelby's Mom, I hope you can keep her less rambunctious. (good luck )

That second folder stuff....I know all about that! They don't even bother to read Winnie's anymore! Glad to hear that Crystal is OK!

Ah, the power of drugs..........that glucosamine shot is like a magic wand.
She is so much more comfortable this morning. I have to take her out on a leash in the yard though. She keeps looking at me wondering why I won't let her run wild. And, now that spring is in the air ~ she'll be even more nutso...
Yesterday she got to see her arch enemy, Finegan, a large german shepherd that lives across the canal from us. All winter, we don't really see him but now that the weather is nice, the owner lets him sit on the dock with his toys in his mouth. For years, Shelby hated him and now Crystal is carrying the torch. Poor Finegan doesn't do anything...his only crime is having some great toys.
