I woke up on a September 27, a perfectly normal day...that turned bad. I got ready for school and after my brother and I quirrled over who gets to sit in the front seat, I got in the car. I never pictured the horror I saw, I didn't think I would ever have to. My dog, Peanut, had been hit by a car. My mom put her in the back and we drove her hom and buried her. My friends couldn't quite understand why I was so bitter and upset. They paitently listened to me pour my heart out. After that expericene I turned to our other dog, Tinker, we became close, I saw the whole thing flash in her eyes, Peanut and Tinker went every where together, I hurt for her still. Now, we still have Tinker, but she lays around all day and sulks, I want to help her, I dont know how, Please respond... [/quote]

Catty7...what a horrible thing for you to have to witness...I am terribly sorry for your loss and shock...

Even though it happened a while ago, it still takes a while to get throughthe grieving process...being there for Tinker is good for both of you....and time will heal...

Tinker had a horrifying experience ins eeing her friend injured and killed...animals remember these things...and I thinkit is harder for them because they do not understand like we do...

Maybe Tinker is picking up on your emotions...you are still sad and upset, so she feels that and is imitating your feelings back to you...
Know that Peanut is at peace, waiting across the Rainbow Bridge for her friends and family to join her one day...

Ask your parents to consider buidling a fence to keep the dogs inside the yard and to prevent this from happening again.

Talk to your parents about your grief, they are there for you, but you need to let them know what you are feeling. If you haven't talked to them, they don't know, so open up to them. Another idea is to talk to a clergyman, for example, your church minister, etc.

As for Tinker, it would be a good idea to get her checked by your vet to ensure she hasn't suffered a great deal of stress due to the incident that could actually be causing a health condition. Talk to your parents about that.

So sorry for your loss. When Bear died, Tippy was unconsolable. Though she lived 3 more years, she was never the same dog. Every morning when she got up, she would go and visit all of Bear's favorite spots hoping she had come home. The thing that helped the most for her, was the arrival of Ginger. Ginger came to us half frozen, malnourished and sick with distemper. When she came home from the vets, Ginger was very lethargic and would curl up against Tippy. Tippy would lick her and groom Ginger. When Ginger recovered and became active, Tippy lost interest and kept away. The hyperactive Ginger (JRT/Chow mix) was too much for her to handle I guess. I guess she forgot when she was young and used to tear around the house with Bear galomping as best she could behind.

Just think of Peanut at the Bridge with all the other good pets who have preceeded her. No more sickness, pain and with youth restored.
