Homemade cat toys?

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has an idea for homemade safe cat toys?
My boy, Lovey, has a high prey drive, lots of energy, and I am looking for good ideas.

I have a fishing pole for him, a perch for the window, some mouse balls, and am looking for other ideas for when I am gone (and when I am here).

my cats love toilet paper and paper towel rolls...of course, they do not last long, and you have a shredded mess to clean up...but it keeps them busy for a while!

Tried this, but he doesn't seem interested.
Was thinking I may have to go and purchase some more predator toys that move...
He has already broken his dangling feather toys...And now obviously can't use them..
He seems very strong for a cat...When He gets hold of the feather, he takes off all proud of himself and I have to use all my strength to hold onto the pole!! Strange!

He only seems interested in stuff that keeps moving.

Try battery-operated toys for cats. There are also pull-string mice available so that when you pull the string, the mouse travels so kitty can chase it. This would take alot of effort on your part, though

Cat-track toys or a play "station" are also available. These are toys that stimulate interest and activity.

Remember to keep fishing-line toys, strings, bells etc put up and out of reach when you are not supervising kitty with these types of toys.

I will go down to the local Pet supply and see what they have....

He is the fastest, most agile and determined cat I have known!!
He is generally quicker than me at pull or dangly toys...

Oh, yes, I do keep the feather toys on strings up high.
The funny thing is he has a favourite, just learned where I keep it.
Just today (good thing I was here , he jumped up on top of the shelf where I keep toys like this and came running over with it.

I was amazed! You can't even see it from down below.

I will look into the cat track round things..He might like that.

My cat and the cat before him love these "sock" toys. I put them away for several weeks though to renew interest (in fact I have found this to be a good idea for most cat and dog toys: rotate; keep one or two out and hide the rest... then the toy seems like new.) This sock is stuffed with soft polyester spongy material... it was purchased in a pet shop long ago... but looks like it would be easy to make. If making one at home, I would be sure to use stuffing which could not be shredded or come out in chips/pieces... My cat gets really fierce with this, biting it and scratching with both front and hind claws. As can be seen here, he is quite possessive about it also...

I will brainstorm on how to make one...I actually have a little tie up bag from a pair of sunglasses I could use, but don't know what to fill it with yet.

I wonder if I put catnip on there if it would entice him to play

The rotation idea is a good one too..

p.s. I often dream about visiting N'awlins...friends have been and say I would loooove it

You know...that works for human kids too!!
When my son was a baby and I had him in the playpen, I used those 5 gallon ice cream tubs and had seven of them filled with various baby toys, because he had so darned many!! It was a whole new adventure for him every day...

Of course, I did keep some of his favourite toys or chew toys in there for him every day, but most toys got rotated out...

doesn't take much effort on my part. My two boys leaned how to pull the string on the toy for themselves!

Use a wool sock for the homemade sock toy. For some reason my cats love to play with my wool socks. Never touch the non-wool ones.

Most days I come home from work to find some feline theif has carried a wool sock from the bedroom to the front door. They do not seem to care if they are clean or used.
