Update on Muffy
He started eating more and more portion of canned cat foods than this morning. But the problem is why is Mickey hissing at Muffy? He didn't hiss at Muffy before but now, he's hissing. Do I keep him in the bedroom? My aunt didn't come and pick him up. She said it's for the best becuz of my daughter wants him with her in this home.
My daughter thinks maybe it because of the dried blood stain in his furs that ticked the smell off to Mickey. How do I clean his furs without making him sick while he's recovering more? He's no longer dehydrated when I checked his skin.
Still I'm trying to think why Mickey hates Muffy. I know it could be a hospital smell but Mickey didn't hiss at him longer than 1 hour before.
Also how can I stop Muffy from jumping on the table and countertops. He supposes to be resting but he kept on jumping on the table. He's in my daughter's bedroom where he's sleeping on the bed now.

Re: Update on Muffy
Cats will often do this when one of their siblings has been at the vet's. Give it another day or so and they should both be fine.
As for the stains on the fur, you can use a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide, then gently clean the fur.
I'm glad to hear he is eating more...you know it's possible that he could have developed a sudden allergy or sensitivity to the Whiska's,...in which if he does ok on the Iams canned, ask your vet if this would be appropriate for his needs for the long term. (or you can also try him on Iams dry when he recovers). It's a long shot, but check the expiration dates on the packages of Whiska's in the event they may not be good.
Not sure you can keep him from getting on the table and counters, but if you have things that are attracting him on the counters, put them away and don't leave snacks/food, etc out.

Re: Update on Muffy
About the smell, okay, thanks.
I used the hydrogen peroxide with cotton balls, thanks. Now his furs clean. He's sleeping in our bed. I guess my bed is warmer than the pet bed. <sigh>
I slapped my forehead..I can barely read it, it said February 27, 20xx on the dry bag of Whiskas food. Two numbers have been scratched off or rubbed off. I took it back this morning (half-emptied) and asked what is going on. The manager apologized. I decided not to buy their products anymore and headed off to Albertsons store, the one I purchased from was "SuperSaver Food" store. I wish Albertsons should never sell their store that was nearest to my home.
Got four new cans of Whiskas, because he sniffed and rejected Iams that I bought earlier after dropping my son off. Went back immediately and bought four cans of Whiskas. Once I opened Whiskas, he meowed like crazy and put his face in the can. I have to pull him away until it's on the dish platter before he can eat. (sheesh, he bit my hand a little bit or is that a love bite?) Not out of the can, jeez. He fought me this early morning over the pill before eating. Grr! I managed to put the pill in his mouth and he swallowed. Lixtonic liquid is no problem for me to give him. Just the pill he hates.
Now he's all resting and sleeping cozy in my bed. Snuggled up pretty good in there. I have to go now because of all the work I have to do, clean the dishes, wash in hot water, dry 'em with lint-free towels. Clean the floor areas.. I'll keep you posted more about him each day.

Re: Update on Muffy
Muffy's up and running well. He's eating more and more canned cat foods. He's resting well. This morning, he chose to chase after Mickey for a "sweet revenge for making fun of him."
He saw his medications in my hand and tried to hide this early morning. <sigh> I shouldn't have him see these medications in my hand. But finally got him and took him to a quiet room. He took his medications pretty good than he used to fought me over with.
Now he's enjoying his lovely nap in our bed again. I have to clean his nose area and chin area after each time he ate his supper. He drank water pretty good with no complaining or vocalizing.
Cuddle dotes on Muffy by licking Muffy's forehead and purrs next to him. Seems like Cuddle understands what is going on with Muffy. Took the bandage off his paw. Looking better and he's HAPPY to be without a bandage on his arm. Argh, his fur is thicker than it was before shaving. Yuck!
He also urinates and poops pretty well in the box without any straining. Not bad. He's spending more time with my daughter. My daughter talks to him, pet him and hugs him and over and over, he loves the attention from us here.

Re: Update on Muffy
Okay, he gained pretty good now...
Take a look at his pic I took while he's resting on my bed. My daughter was next to him but she covered herself with the blanket.
http://tinypic.com/214ffa
He got the canned cat food on his nose. My daughter has a warm washcloth to scrub his nose but once she saw me with a camera, she put the cover over her head. Hehehe. He let her clean his nose but would NOT let me clean his nose. Weird. <sigh> Glad he's looking better than before. He looked terrible when he gone to the hospital for three days. He looked improving but wobbling for a while after coming out of the hospital..now recovering nicely and gained weights good. He finally has some strengths and swatted at Cuddle's nose to let him know that "Don't bug me, you brat, I'm recovering!" Cuddle looked puzzle. Now he got the message to leave Muffy alone.
See the stain on the chest area. Thought I cleaned it good and it was white but the camera caught its stain. I have to clean again. He drank some water this hour ago and went to do his business in the box. I decided it's better for him to sleep in our bedroom so I put in extra litterbox.

I love his pic, what a darling boy
I'm glad to hear he's doing better...please keep a close eye on him, and give your vet a call with an update.
On another note, it's always a good idea to check expiration dates on any pet food when you are still in the store...cans usually have this on the bottom of the can.

As for the pic, thanks.
Sorry for late updating. Busy doing some errands. Muffy's gaining some more weights. Muffy's using his fav scratching post.... "Ahhhhh" thought Muffy stretching his arms and back. He took his medications..back to fighting ring. He tried to win but he lost. Hehe. I told him I know he hates medications, I told him we humans hate medications too but we all have to take 'em to get well.
He's increasing more and more alert. As far as his health goes, he's doing much better.
I will keep on chexing the expiration date on every canned and dried foods. I just went to Albertsons store and bought several more canned and a couple of small size bags dried food but same brand only.
Cuddle got to be so cute on his side. He went and laid next to Muffy. Awww, that's cute of Cuddle. You're right, Mickey and Muffy went back as siblings again.

Re: Update on Muffy
Everyday the same update..and today, I took Muffy in for a re-check. He gained to 10 lbs from the time he was so light. It's weird but I'm very happy. First this morning, I took out his carrier. And he just went into a carrier. Once I picked the carrier up. I can't believe he's becoming heavy than before. Yes!
Another bottle of Albaplex (sp? I'm lazy now) again. I know he'll fight me all over again. Paid $42. He will be the next expensive kitty besides my beloved Lucky. He hafta go back next week for the last re-check. ARGH! Then in April, he will need dental cleaning. Yuck! Not bad. I love how he's doing. He's doing very well. Vets gave thumb-ups. I just hope that will not gonna happen to him again.
ARGH! So expensive cats. Hey, we all love 'em.

Re: Update on Muffy
Cynthia, I'm so glad to hear Muffy is doing better.
During the next recheck, please ask your vet what he really suspects, and see if he will give you at least a technical term for the problem. (i.e, gastroenteritis).
Before you allow the dental, please be sure you have a new pre-surgical blood screen done (ALT, BUN, Creatinine and Total Protein), and that this current infection has completely resolved.

I'll let you know when I go in for the re-check. He always did the pre-surgical blood screen before giving Lucky dental cleaning. He won't do it immediately until he's strong and healthy.Traci wrote:Cynthia, I'm so glad to hear Muffy is doing better.

I thought at first, the other vet said you can get it done immediately but Lucky's long time vet told me infection has to be gone completely before he can work on Muffy's teeth. He's the vet I trust. I don't know what happened to the lady vet. Oh, well.
