Tea Totaller

Post by Tambrey »

Our newest addition, Majik, loves to try to sneak a drink of my iced tea...grrrrrr....

I often have caught him with his entire head down in the pitcher of tea I just made (real tea with teabags, not that icky powdered stuff!) so I have to keep a plastic cereal bowl inverted over the pitcher...I do not keep it in the fridge I drink it too fast and it stays cold enough right now on the kitchen counter...

If I have a glass of tea here at the table, I have to keep moving it from one side to the other because he keeps wanting to get a drink...

Anyways, just thought this was a weird quirk... :?

I know you know this, but for other readers, never let kitties get to your iced tea, coffee, etc....the caffeine in them are dangerous for pets.

I think most cats are attracted to a glass of most any liquid....I think it's more the interest and curiosity rather than drinking it (or the mischief  )

most definitely...he does not drink the tea, or at least I do not let him...

a couple of times I think he idd manage to drink some and I was sooo mad and kept an eye on him for a few days...there was one day about a week ago, when I first discovered his head in the pitcher...that he was lethargic for the evening, but snapped back and was fine the next day...not sure if it was caffiene he got or just not feeling well...

But definitely, no drinks other than water unless they sneak something...

But can dogs drink tea?
The Dobermans I've had loved to drink tea and I let them (on occasion). Am I a bad mommy?

No, they shouldn't....caffeine is a stimulant and can affect pets differently than humans. Caffeine is a neurological as well as cardiovascular toxicant (stimulant)

Sometimes when I'm at the sink, my cat will get very close to the water and try to drink the water left over at the bottom of the sink. I usually fill up a short glass with water and she'll drink from it for about 5 minutes straight.

 Jeez, that's reminded me one of our beloved Lucky. Hehe. He kept stealing my mom's cup of water. LOL! So she decided to put extra cup of water there and he licks his water out of a cup right besides my mom who drank her own cup of water. He had his own bowl of water but chose to take like a "human." Hehe. How I love kitties soooo much for their mischevious and funny and clown ways. :D

Alot of animals tend to be like that...

I have a friend who had a cockatiel who loved popcorn...it got to the point where Lois had to give Doby her own bowl of popcorn because she would not share and peck and hand who reached into the bowl of popcorn...

Sooo...Doby got her own little bowl so we could eat ours without being pecked to bits!

Yes, I also catch Majik at the sink trying to drink water...and all of our cats prefer to drink from the water cooler...Callie actually knows how to work the cooler and I will come home to half the 5-gallon jug of water all over the floor, because she will pull the lever and drink as thr water flows out...the others drink what is in the overflow well under the taps...so I have to keep clothespins on the levers now, but still keep water in the overflow dish because they all prefer that...even though it is the same water as in their dish on the floor!

We've been renting for 2+ years now, and all 3 of my cats love to drink out of the sink. So....since we don't pay for water, we always leave it trickling!!!! The cats love it....there is always one of them in the sink at any given time, drinking from the faucet and getting water all over the top of their heads!!!! Of course, we just bought a house and are moving in less than a week, so unfortunately this will soon change for the cats... :(
