Weak trachea

My toy poodle (10 1/2) has a weak trachea. She coughs quite a bit, especially when she gets up from sleeping. Can someone tell me a bit more about it? Apparently her little heart is fine. She also has a thyroid problem for which she is on medication. Could this also cause her to cough? Thanks in advance.

What does your vet say, and what diagnostics have been done lately? Coughing episodes need to be differentiated from other causes, was an x-ray done?
