Louie came for supper last night.....

Post by Marty »

Don't remember if I mentioned it here, but around the Christmas confusion, Louie decided to be aggressive towards 10 yr Winnie, so we decided to let him live with our son, and cool off. It's been 2 months, and we had son and Louie over last night for dinner (well, son has been here by himself).

It appears that the aggression...alpha issue is still there, but son was able to keep it under control. He has been working with Louie on who is alpha.

The point really is that when it came time for the dogs to eat, Louie got so excited, he ran to the place where his crate had been and where he was fed, in the family room, and just sat there like a good dog in this empty space. We were in hysterics!

Too funny! See, you did train Louie very well in some ways... Really, behavior like this in house pets is so interesting... We had a huge blue angora cat named Igor who was such a character. In the breakfast room of our house in Lincoln there was a picture window overlooking a rear patio. We mostly ate in the dining room, so it was okay for Iggy to sit on the breakfast table and look out - it was his favorite place. I forget now why, but we removed the table and chairs, leaving that area unfurnished... We then found Igor sitting on the floor staring at the blank wall 3 inches in front of him and 3 feet below the windowsill...

Seriously, it sounds to me like your son and Louie are making good progress; it's fortunate to have such options re a problem, isn't it? :)

Yes, we were fortunate he has a house, fenced yard and dog door. Can't really afford a dog (let's just say a divorce left him with more house than he should have), so I guess we'll take care of the medical aspect. They adore each other, and now he has a smiling face to greet him.

Winnie did OK with the visit, but I could tell it couldn't be permanent again. They kept giving each other "the look." I've been told to let them settle it....but that makes me a bit nervous, especially with my bad back.
