HELP!---Pee on Kitchen Counters...UGH!

Post by Tambrey »

I know this sounds gross...but these last few days, I keep finding pee on the kitchen counters, and I cannot catch the culprit of the ten cats to know who is doing this to me!!

The only thing I can think of is that I bought a generic kitchen spray cleaner at WalMart, and it has bleach in it, and it smells like bleach, but I feel compelled to use it because I bought it!! Is the bleach (ammonia smell) making them want to pee on the counter rather than in the litter box?! The litter boxes also get cleaned many times a day...every time we go to the bathroom, or throw something away, the boxes get scooped of the poops and peaballs...

I have been following up after cleaning the pee with Nature's Miracle for cat urine, and overnight I have been spraying a Behavior Modification stinky spray on the counters...but I cannot keep doing this forever!!

At least I know I must have the cleanest kitchen counters in the city with all the scrubbing they get numerous times a day, when I walk in there and find another yellow puddle on the counter.... :x

Cats don't like the smell of amonia/bleach products (mucous membrane sensitivities), so try using citrus instead. (citrus scents are sometimes a deterrant as well)

I use Lysol all-purpose cleaner (lemon scent) or 409 kitchen cleaner (orange scent).

Use the bleach cleaner you bought for other purposes, like bathroom porcelains, etc, as long as the cats aren't around them.

Thanks Traci...I will get some the next time I am in the city...

It is a sudden thing, and that is all that has changed, so the only thing I could think of causing them to want to go there...

Tambrey...I use Orange Clean by the makers of Orange Glo. I got it at Target for I think $1.99 (it sells for $3.99 on the Orange clean website) I use the grapefruit zest scent and it smells soooooo wonderful!! I don't know if Wal-Mart sells it or if you have a Target near you. You can check it out at their website:

good luck with the problem...

Thanks Tina...yes, we have a Target in the city, so I can try that as well...
keep trying til I find something that works...
I asked DH if there was a mat somewhere that I could put on the counter and when they stepped on it, it would depress a bladder and water would squirt out at them...I hve seen the ones that either shock or make noise, and am not too fond of those...but I use water guns already, so a squirt of water is something they know means no!

I am thinking I should have never cleaned the counters...now that I keep them cleared of stuff all the time, rather than dishes piled up, they seem to want to use the counter...I wonder if I put their food dishes up there, like a friend of mine does, if they would go there?...But then, I am not a fan of cats on the kitchen counters and try to discourage it whenever I catch them up there...I have plenty of floor space and shelves for them to sit on if they want to be higher...

This is the main reason I don't have cats! I like cats, I just don't think I would be able to deal with cats on the couters. (Although, why, I'm not sure - we have to pick sheltie hair out of our food all the time - it just floats through the air and lands in the pot when we aren't looking - so, really, what's the difference!)

Maybe you need to go back to cluttered counters? Any chance of some kind of physical problem, like a UTI or stones? Could this have anything to do with the house full of people you just had? Maybe somebody's mad about having their space invaded? Just some thoughts - don't know if any of them are of any value! :)

LOL....Karen, I like cats, too, but the thought of them walking through the litter box, and then jumping on the counter doesn't do anything for me. Dog hair doesn't faze me.

Tambrey, I'm wondering if the confusion of recent events may have upset your cat, and things will right themselves with some time.

I do not like the cats on the counters either...LOL>..we have water bottles and whenever we see one they get a squirt...

We had friends over this evening, and the wife thought it funny becuase Skittles kept wanting to jump onto the counter because she could smell the plate DH brought the steaks in on...but every time she looked up there and started to hunker down to jump, I said, "Skittles NO!" and she would stop mid jump and walk away...

The culprit was doing this before my grandmother passed away, so I do not think that is it...and if I knew who it was, ...I can then take her to get checked...I know it is one of the girls as I do see my boys in the litter boxes...

I did not make it to target, but I got some 409 Lemon Scent cleaner and came home and cleaned counters with that...so far so good...

I had a few of the the orange Clorox wipes left and I tried those on the kitchen counter but it did not deter the culprit, but maybe the lemon will...tomorrow will tell as I usually find it then...in the morning...

Yeah, we pick flying fur out of things all the time...I vacuum and sweep daily but it does no good...LOL...okay, it does help a bit...I can imagine how it would be if I didn't!
