How can I stop her from peeing in her pad?

Post by chloebaby »

hi, lately we've noticed that sometimes chloe will be playing in her fleece pad with her blankets inside and she will pee on her blanket or in her pad. first couple times we just thought puppies have accidents.. so it's normal.. but she'll be 11 weeks old this week and she still does that from time to time.

we always wash her pad & blankets after she pees on them to prevent her from going again. and last night when we're watching TV, she was playing around.. and wanted us to pick her up. we did that.. and then she started snapping at us and bite my wife's finger. so we went "OUCH" and put her on the ground and not play with her. we did that a couple of times to teach her not to bite.

then.. she just decided to pee right on my wife's slippers and she hit it dead on the spot. lol. my wife said.. is that her way of complaining to us? sigh.. so after that.. we clean it up.. and let her play in her pad instead.

when you say her pad...is her pad just lying loose on the floor or is it in a cage like system...she should have a pad and a bathroom together,,,ie her fuzzy pad right next to a newspaper bath rooom....next time she pees her pad take some of it and rub it on a nearby news paper and see if she might get the ide to go on the paper rathyer than the pad.. Normally they wont soil their bed room but then they have tohave an alternaticv bathroom...

A playing puppy can urinate every 15-20 minutes. Why don't you try to head her off and take her out to potty before she has a chance to go. For my paper trained pup, we play right next to the x-pen with pads and every 20 minutes while the pup was loose I popped him in the pen.

actually her pad is a fleece pad with a soft fleece covered wall all around. kinda like a bed for cats, but much softer. her wee wee pad is next to it. most of the time she goes in her wee wee pad... but sometimes i think she's just marking her blankets, etc.

sometimes it almost seems like when she is mad at us, she'll pee on her favorite toy and leave it outside her sleeping pad. but lately she hasn't done that yet.. except for peeing on her mom's slippers again last night.

Peeing in the slippers may simply be a way of "claiming" your wife (her 'mommy') as her own. A compliment, of the graeatest canine order. Or, it may have been nothing more than an accident. I doubt, at her young age, that it was vindictive or taunting in any way.

I know you want her to be trained and managable, but, at only 11 weeks old - right now, she is the equivalent of a human toddler - not even kindergarten age yet. Please don't expect too much too soon. Give her love, guidance, and consistent expectations, and she will grow up to become the dog you want her to be. Just be patient - just like with our own children, it takes a while to learn and mature.

thanks Karen. just last sunday we attended the Puppy Head Start program in Petsmart. after listening to the instructor (chloe didn't attend the first class cuz she needs to have her 2nd set of shots first) we were both happy and sad.

sad cuz the instructor's brother in law has 3 doxies.. and 2 of them took 4 yrs to be finally pottie trained. when my wife and i heard that.. we were like.. wow... :? but then again.. we were happy cuz he taught us some tips on how to train her.. which we train later that day and it seems to work a bit.

so chloe is going in for her 2nd set of shots and then on sunday.. it'll be her first class session. she'll have a golden retriever, *beep*, and a small terrier as classmates. they are all very calm.. but our chloe might just be the most hyper of all.

can't wait till this sunday..
and this week.. doing kennel training again.. cuz the kennel we got before was too way too big for her. last night, after her bath.. she was wrapped up in my fleece sweatshirt.. and put into her new kennel, and she slept till 6:30AM before i let her out to pee and then right back in to kennel to sleep. then at 7:30am.. she cried.. and i let her out to poo and then back to kennel to sleep. then at 8AM.. she saw the sunshine (her favorite) and she became my alarm clock..

but definitely.. lotsa love and patience + persistance + consistancy will eventually work.. hehe (keeping our fingers crossed)

I would still caution you on that second series of vaccinations. I would wait until her third to introduce her to other pups. Call your vet and ask him what he recommends for the series before puppy classes.

I so very much agree with Traci on this... `Eowyn's vet wouldn't even let me walk the pup on my own front sidewalk until she had the whole series - especially the final parvo. I live in a so-called "good" part of town, but parvo is a big danger here (maybe because it's the subtropics.) Areas differ and vets know their own areas; still, as Traci says, I would ask again to be sure.

I'm very opinionated on puppy vaccinations...and Petsmart is a pet peeve of mine, in that they allow pets to wander their stores, never knowing if just one may be infected with a transmissable virus. I also think that Petsmart (at least in Chloe's vacinity) should re-evaluate their vaccination policies as it pertains to puppy classes.
