ok.. perhaps chloe is a big eater. today she learn to climb the stairs and manage to climb into a big red box where we keep her stuff and her kibbles.
to make the long story short.. she bite open the ziplock bag and started munching.
my wife was wondering if perhaps we are feeding her too little. cuz she looks soo hungry. we are feeding her Hill's SD. here is the link: http://www.hillsvet.com/zSkin_2/product ... 7544651265.
now chloe is about 2.5 lbs, so i'm guess i should be giving her about 1/2 cups (we're using the cups used for baking, is that ok?) now since we're feeding her around 3 times a day.. are we right to take that 1/2 cup and divided by 3? cuz my wife and i are kinda confused by the SD's information. since it's a daily amount, so that's why we think we should divide it by 3. are we wrong about this?
Feeding the correct amounts?
Re: Feeding the correct amounts?
The amount of food listed on the bag or can is simply a guideline. You will need to adjust that depending upon your dog's needs. A very active dog with a high metabolism will probably need more than the 'recommended' amount, and a less active dog or one with a slower metobolism may need less. You can judge more by looking at you dog and assessing her weight. You should be able to feel ribs, but not see them - same with the backbone. Puppies are like our kids, and they may put on a bit of weight and look a little pudgy right before a growth spurt. She should also have a shiny coat and healthy skin, eyes bright, etc. If she is overweight, you are probably feeding too much. If she is underweight, you probably need to feed more. The amount you feed will need to be adjusted as her needs change and as she ages. Your vet will assess your dog's weight along with all the other factors that are used to determine over-all good health.
As for Chloe opening the bag to feed - she may have been hungry, or she might just be a normal dog. Most dogs tend to eat until they can eat no more, throw that up, and then go back for more. It is one of the instincts that remains and may have nothing to do with any real need for more food. Or, she may truly need more calories in her diet, so take a good look at her and try to determine, with your vet's help, whether or not she may need more food than you are currently feeding.

Re: Feeding the correct amounts?
Thanks, we will keep that in mind. Chloe is starting to slowly come around. over the weekend, we found out that chloe is a fast hot dog. and since she's so hyper.. we realized that what we are feeding her is not enough. so we're adjusting now. thanks for the tip~
