Had a scarey morning....
Had a scarey morning....
Biscotti woke me up crying on the couch, and it seemed she couldn't move. She has seemed a bit off for a couple days, but DH had surgery yesterday, and I have been tied up with him. 6 or 7 years ago, Bisc had disc surgery, and this seemed very similar. The Vet squeezed us into an already booked morning, and thank goodness, she didn't think it was her back, but arthritis in her hip joint They will take x-rays next week when she is under for an ear flushing, but for now we have Rimadyl until this cold wet weather passes. For a while, I thought this might be decision day, as she is around 10 years old. Next week WILL better, I hope.....

wow.. and i thought we had a scary morning. our 8 weeks old chloe almost swallowed a small nail she got from God knows where. good thing she spit it out first and my wife caught her in the act.
but i hope Biscotti will be fine. I hope she will be better next week.

Good grief!!
I hope the Rimadyl works, but, you do know that it has some potentially serious side effects, right? Did the vet check her liver enzymes before prescribing? Watch for any signs of gastric or intestinal distress (vomiting and/or wretching, loose stools, diarrhea, etc.). Rimadyl works great when it works, but it can be a killer (quite literally) when it doesn't. 1/2 of one pill made Mickey sick for 3 days. I know dogs that are on it with no problem whatsoever, but, frankly, it scares me.

Thanks, Karen.....I have heard of the dangers of Rimadyl , and was concerned, but I am hoping just a few days will help her. At this time, it is not a long term thing. I know you can't get rid of arthritis....just relieve the symptoms. I got her a heated bed, which she took to right away. I'll be on pins and needles until the x-rays are taken.

Oh Marty, how scary.
My first Doberman developed arthritis at age 10. I remember he had good days and bad.
I hope Biscotti is feeling better soon and the medication helps her.

Hope she is on a good up spiral. Prissy my 10 year old black lab is also severely arthritic. Right now she is doing well with Cura-flex. When that stops working I'm afraid we will have to make that difficult decission as she cannot tolerate Rimadyl.
Re: Had a scarey morning....
Xrays have been done, and it is arthritis and not her back...Whew! Rimadyl helped a lot, and we have stopped it after 3 days. She is much better...and is getting a glucosamine supplement. I quickly got a liquid, liver flavored spray from PM to spray on her food..am open to suggestions as to what to use permanenty.
Hubby was really happy when Bisc jumped up in the recliner to sit with him. I know that is not a great idea, but.....she is happy, he is happy....sigh.

Re: Had a scarey morning....
Update.....she is doing wonderfully.. partly due to the warmer weather. I can say she sometimes acts like a puppy, and we haven't seen that often lately. I will continue the supplement...it seems like it is making a difference. She talks to me all day long, bounces around, and is just a happy girl! I took her for a short walk tonight, and she just pranced along, and sniffed to her heart's delight.
I'm so glad she's doing so much better.
BTW, just what's wrong with juming into the recliner??? Mickey used to do that, and I miss it terribly - he was such a love! None of the three I have now like to be 'lap dogs'.
