HELP- Chloe's problems: stomach or intestine problems maybe?
*** sorry for the long post~ ***
hi, i'm a new member here. my wife and i recently got a 8 weeks old smooth red mini dachshund. her name is Chloe.
since she was 7 weeks old.. she was introduced into our home. she has been doing fine and very hyper/active.
just last thursday, she had diahrea with mucus type of goo along with traces of blood. she had that for about two days till we took her to the vet with a fresh sample. she's been dewormed before by the same vet about a week prior to that.
after her sat. visit with the sample (color green & brown w/ mucus covered w/ small traces of blood), they did a test on the samples and came out negative. the vet said it could be her colon being infected due to the fact the sample has mucus like stuff on it. therefore vet gave Chloe some antibiotics (amoxocilin) to take. during the weekend she was fine.. the mucus, diahrea, and blood were reduced.
last night (monday) and this morning, chloe once again has diahrea and has very small droplets of blood in her poo. she's still on her antibiotics. so besides all this.. what else could be the problem?
Chloe is now 8 weeks and 2 days old. she's now on Science Diet Puppy Bites and on Kirkland bottle water from Costco. she's being fed 3 times a day with 1/6 cups of puppy bites every meal. she then gets a small amount of treat when she do her things on the wee wee pad.
can some please help~ thanks~

It could be stress from her recent adoption and adjusting to her new environment, but you might also need to get a new fecal exam, and/or culture to rule out various bacterials. (one fecal may not be enough for accuracy, or to determine parasitic infestation).
Also talk to your vet about possibly changing the diet, either temporarily to a low-residue diet or a different brand of puppy food altogether, to rule out dietary intolerances or allergies. Also discuss the treats with your vet in the event they may contain offending ingredients.
Lastly, rule out environmental things she could be getting into (in the yard, or chewing/digesting toys, etc that she shouldn't)

Traci,
We've brought her samples in for testing twice already. And both times there are no parasites found. At first the vet gave her Hill's Prescription Diet I/D (suppose to help out digestive system) which worked for a couple days. But then I noticed there were some parts in the food that seems pretty hard.
So then we changed the diet to the Science Diet Puppy Bites and then she stopped having diahrea. But now she's have some diahrea again. Is there a diet that you would recommend?

Ask your vet about possibly going back on the I/D until the course of antibiotics are up. Not sure what you mean by "parts of the food seemed hard"....I/D is a highly digestible diet...so if you were using canned, try the dry instead.
Another thing to mention is that if your vet was only looking for parasites, he may have overlooked campylobacter or clostridium (the latter more common), might want to ask him about that.
In the meantime, keep her stress at the barest minimum, and don't tempt too many different foods (and absolutely no people foods) or you won't be able to go through the process of elimination.....once the blood and mucous resolve, ask your vet for recommendations on other puppy foods (I would suggest trying Eukanuba).

Traci,
Ok, we'll try to give her the I/D (it was the canned version) and see how it goes. I have noticed that when Chloe eats the Science Diet, she seems to poo more often then usual (compared to when we gave her chicken and rice).
Also, which of the Eukanuba will be a good choice? since there are so many different types of formula.
as for the stress level, i think it may be becuase we are trying to train her to sleep in her crate and she just whins and whins all night long. last night we let her sleep in our bathroom with the crate door open, so she can move around and about freely behind the baby gate. we even have a pad for her to cuddle in if she chooses, and wee wee pad & DAP. she cried every 2 hrs.
is it possible she is stressed from that? if so.. then how will we ever be able to crate train her. also, my wife just called and told me that while she was in the kitchen.. chloe came and rested on her slippers and was shivering. even when she is being held.. chloe shakes while being wrapped in fleece.
we worry about her...

Re: HELP- Chloe's problems: stomach or intestine problems ma
My mother has always had doxies, and I remember them shaking all the time...we had beagles as well, and I have one right now, and he shakes all the time..
not sure why they shake...they are always healthy, just have the shivers...
I have figured out that Oliver, our beagle, will shake even when he is happy to see us...
Doxies also seem to be a one person dog...so as she grows and adapts, do not be offended if she chooses one over the other of you...I remember one of our dixies, Daisy...if my dad pretended to hit at my mother (all in play and fun) and mom would fake cry out, Daisy would be right at my dad's feet, nipping at his shoes and growling at him...and of course, as soon as they stopped, she was fine with him...
I hope you can figure out what Chloe's problems are and get them taken care of...they are wonderful little dogs...

Traci,
Thanks for the input. tonight chloe doesn't have diahrea anymore.. just whins a lot and wants to be held. however, while i was holding her tonight, she was sleeping and then all of the sudden it seems like she is having a bad dream, kinda growling at God knows who. but other than that.. she's just been biting us pretty hard lately.. so gotta find out how to teach her not to bite so hard.

I would recommend Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy. But, call and ask your vet for his opinion on continuing the I/D first, until the diarrhea is resolved.
I suspect the mucous and blood are from stress. Since you've only had her for about a week (?), she is still adjusting to her new environment, you, and of course, the crate-training, all of which can be stressful situations for a young puppy.
As Tambrey mentioned, doxies are extremely clingy dogs, they want attention all of the time and they do shiver a lot. It is not necessarily due to cold elements, it is simply a mechanism for security, attention, etc.
When she cries so much, it is probably because she wants attention, is unsure yet about her environment and quite possibly because she was taken from her mother and siblings too young (ideally would be at 12 weeks, rather than 8...). It can be difficult to deal with this, but give her lots of love and attention, plenty of toys (maybe put a stuffed animal in her crate with her to cuddle with) and take her outside to potty as often as necessary when you are home. You can also start trying verbal commands with her at those times in the wee hours of the morning when she's crying....choose one word or a short phrase of words at the same time you are comforting/obliging her, then slowly wean her from your comforting touch by simply commanding her with the word or phrase. (this will take some tough love).

I like ProPlan Small Breed Puppy. A few breeder friends fed the Euk but switched to ProPlan and no longer have constipation problems with their pups.

One of the ways that puppies learn not to bite is for you to YELP loudly when she does it then put her down and IGNORE her for a while. Pretty soon she should get the message.
