Cat: Donations would be great for the Joey fund

Post by JaJaJoey »

I really need to get Joey declawed or just get the nail caps or something because Joey will NOT use his scratching post and he IS still clawing up the furniture!! My mom is making me pay for everything since he's my cat and I bet you one tear in the couch and Joey is OUT!! I can't bear to lose him now I don't know how I would survive without him!! Please help I would GREATLY appreciate it!! Or if anyone even has nail caps if they could even send that to me I would so greatly appreciate it I just have to do something FAST because no matter what I do Joey won't stop scratching the furniture. We have a leather couch even and I know one of these days he will get curious about it!! And I just know how my dad is..one mistake and BOOM the cat is OUT!! Please PLEASE help!!

Sorry I have nothing to donate other than advice...

Get a water gun or squirt bottle and keep it filled with water...or get a few to have around the house...

Whenever you catch your cat in the act of scratching someplace other than his post, give him a squirt on his hind end, tell him no, then take him to his post and put his paws onto it, making a scratching motion with his paws...hopefully soon he will get the idea...

When using the water bottles or squirt guns, if at all possible, do NOT let the cat see that it is you doing the squirting...he will think it is the furniture doing it to him, and will associate that item with a squirt of water on his hind end...

Also, I use human toenail clippers to clip the ends of my cats claws to keep them blunt and not as sharp...this takes patience and time to begin with, but after they get used to it, I have a couple that actually look forward to "Clippy claws" and when I say that, they will get in my lap, purrrr and stretch out their claws to be clipped...

Here is a link to teach you how to properly clip, and if you are not comfortable doing this, have the vet show you or one of your parents how to do this:

Good luck in getting things under control...just remember that it takes time, patience and persistence on your part to get it done...
