Litter Locker? Does it work?

Post by gsc4 »

I just saw the "Litter Locker" in the pet store and was wondering if anyone has one and can give a product review? Is it worth the $20 for the unit and ongoing cost regular plastic refills?

It's looks like it operates in the same princpal as a Diaper Genie. Scoop, drop into Litter Locker, twist to seal into plastic, empty unit when full to see "sausage links" of plastic enclosed scoopings. Hopefully it also encloses odors too.

Right now I scoop into a zip lock plastic sandwich bag and drop it in the human trash. But I have bad aim and end up dropping some onto the floor. Especially when a cat decides to help me with the scooping and nudges my arm or the baggie. The 5 month old kitten, Schnitz, is very helpful!

Yes, I have two of them, one upstairs and one downstairs, and I would not go without!!
(I also currently have ten cats indoors!)

There have been times when I have forgotten to empty the spool of waste inside the unit, and it went two weeks without ever a smell from it...of course, I had a HUGE sausage to contend with getting tied up

Definitely worth the investment and you only need to undo the reel and tie it up when you take out the trash for trash day...

So, does it keep smells at bay...it sure does...as long as you just remember to turn the spool after enptying the litter waste into it...

I tend to go to eBay and buy up a bunch of the refills at a cheaper cost than at Target or Petco...actually, I got my second litter locker and two refills on eBay for less that $15.00 and about $8.00 shipping, but still saved money!

I just saw an ad for a $300 litter box!!!...hubby says no way...LOL...but I am thinking, if it works like they say it does...how easy my life would be!!! It is called a Litter Robot...

I've seen this before....personally, I would think it's a $300 pain in the ***. Still have to use liners, impossible to keep clean/odor-free, looks like a claustophobic trap for poor kitties, and it won't be any more sanitary than a regular litterbox, considering urine will be kept deep within the litter inside.

Well, that's my review :?

Thanks Traci...I do not know if I could ever really justify a $300 litter box...LOL

But the litter locker for the waste does work quite well...and as long as I scoop the poop (and pee) on a daily basis, the litter boxes are not so bad...just time consuming with ten cats and boxes scattered throughout the house...

I wonder if they make designer litter boxes so we could just decorate our homes with them, rather than trying to hide them in hard for us to reach places...just leave them out in the open for guests to enjoy when they come to visit...

I have also thought of trying the toilet training thing....hhmmm...gotta go check on that one...

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely try Ebay for the refills. I'll have to check out my local Target, I saw it in Petco for $19.99 but my sister gets a discount at Target so maybe I can save a few bucks and get it there.

They do, Tambrey, just do a search for 'kitty privy' or similar....don't know how convenient they are to keep clean, though.
