I live with a smart & clever hound!...msg
Hello all,
momPaw's mention of Honey taking a good pic for a treat made me think of Mr. Blue and his ear cleaning. He'd been shaking his head a lot this evening, so I thought I'd better clean his ears. I got out a few small treats, and put them on a waist-high shelf while I went into the other room to get his ear cleaner. I heard a crunching noise, and came back out to see Mr. Blue chewing rapidly, wagging his tail, with no treats on the shelf! I honestly didn't think he'd go back on his hind legs and really stretch to get the treats. He let me clean his ears, but he didn't get his after-cleaning treats. I guess it's my own fault for underestimating his determination to get something to eat

What????????
No after-cleaning treats??? C'mon Mary, don't you feel the least bit guilty for holding out on that poor dog???
I can't believe he helped himself to those treats ---- in advance!

That is called counter-surfing...
what hounds do best! Let me tell you our experience this morn...Hubby was feeding the 3 dogs, 2 of them are on Baytril and we just put it on their food...it tastes good and they just take the pills easily with food. Winnie gulps down her food...Biscotti is not so eager to eat....It was raining, and Bisc, who shakes during thunderstorms, was more hesitant than normal. Winnie seized the opportunity to scarf down Bisc's food as well! Hubby was quick to pick up the bowl, but not before Winnie had carefully picked out the pill. So I was watching her all day for overdose...She is fine, but didn't get the evening dose. We learned a lesson..tomorrow's pills will be hand fed! These hounds are very food motivated!!! I love em anyway!
Scribs is good at that..
More than once she's cleaned out an entire bag of treats. We keep them in a cabinet above the washer but she can still get at 'em if they are right in front!

Our dogs really ARE smart, aren't they? Marty, I'm glad...
...there weren't bad effects from double-dosing on the medicine! Shelby's Mom, I confess: I did give him a baby carrot after ear cleaning; he got 3 treats instead of two! momPaws, he was even better than normal for his ear cleaning. I'm not sure if it was guilt or not, but he did truly have a "hang dog" look. Boxer Tom, Scribs has put Mr. Blue to shame with her ability to get treats from over the washer!
Mr. Blue is so food-motivated. He's also very responsive to a lot of praise and petting.

Apache has them all beat... Our American Foxhound scarfed a whole leftover roast! Still warm from the oven!!!
Not only that, but she managed to get all the way to the sofa without the other dogs noticing. Fortunately the grease did not go through the throw.
