I have had my cat Mya for over a year now. She came from a shelter. She is about 1 1/2 years old. I noticed her sneezing a lot a while bach so I changed cat litters to the newspaper kind. I thought the dust from clay litter bothered her. Now, I notice that when she runs up the stairs or plays a little bit, she is breathing so heavily, like she is stuffed up or something.
I have never noticed this in any other cats that I have had. I cannot take her to the vet for a while yet and i just wanted to know anybody's thoughts. Could she have breathing problems or lung trouble??

Re: Breathing problems ???
Is her nose runny? eyes have discharge? She could have an upper respiratory infection, a cold, allergies ... she really needs to be physically examined by a vet. The heavy breathing after play or running up the steps worries me. Why can't you take her to the vet for a while? I would definitely give the vet a call at least and explain what is going on.

Breathing problems always warrant an immediate vet visit.....you need to rule out respiratory infection vs asthma, lung infection, heart defects, etc.
Don't wait on this, get her seen promptly.

Thanks for your responces. I cannot take my cat to the vet right now cause of money issues but I will defiently give him a call.
Cleo- her nose is not runny and no discharge in eyes. I will call the vet tomorrow.

When you call your vet, ask if he/she will take payments...most will do that...your cat needs to be tested and possible medications, and a vet cannot diagnose that over the phone...
Hopefully nothing serious, after all gets checked out...I have a cat who will sneeze 20-30 times in a row when he gets going...he has been checked many times, and everytyhing is fine...he is allergic to something, but I do not know what yet...I have noticed that since it is winter now, he is not sneezing near as much, so even though he never goes outside, something must come in that triggers it for him...
