another succesful foster story!!

Post by Tina B and crew »

Tiara went to be with her new humans today :D She was a sweetie...but a holy terror at the same time!! I was able to get her to gain weight and socialize her. She's also use to bigger cats...that will be helpful since they have another cat.

I get my bathroom back now!! Woohoo!!

I would never have been able to let her go, what a precious little sweetheart.

She is adorable....I would not have been able to let her go, either...
Congrats on a successful placement :)

speaking of Successful placement, I got a call today from a woman in Minnesota. Her parents live near where I live, and she is coming home for Christmas. She wants to take a cat home with her, so her dad called the local vet, who gave them my number.
She called today, and we spoke on the phone, she seems very nice, asked if I charged anything for adoptions since I spent so much on care---food, spay/neuter, meds, etc...I said I just want them to go to good homes. I told her I keep them inside and prefer that new owners do the same. She agreed and said she used to work for Animal Control/Rescue in another neighboring town.
She is coming over Friday mid-morning to play with all the cats and see which one she bonds with best...it will be hard to let someone go, but if they go to a good home, I am okay with it...
I will post back which one she falls in love with...

Oh...it wasn't that hard...she was one of those cats who are into EVERYTHING!! Besides, to be fair to my cats I have to keep the cat population down in this house...I noticed a few of them getting stressed out. It's just too small for more than 5 cats...heck it's too small for the 5, but we make do ;-)

I know the folks who adopted her..I know she will have a good home and I will be able to get frequent updates on her. She's definitely a princess! :D

Well, I am so disgusted with the woman who came over to see about adopting a cat/kitten...

She said her brother would bring her over, since she does not live around here, well, her brother and another brother and her dad all came along...they are all HUGE men, and she was none too small herself...

Rather than sitting on the couch to visit and let the cats get used to their presence, they all followed me into the dining room, and stood around in a semi-circle while I tried to catch by now scared cats for her to try to hold/pet/bond with...
Of course, none of the cats wanted to come near to me, or any of these strangers!!
I did catch Sissy, the newest addition along with her brother, Majik as I really want to find these cuties a home soon...
Then she said she can only have a short haired cat, and she wanted a male, because her roommate is allergic, but said it was okay with a shorthair because they do not shed as much
So, I managed to catch Majik, he is our scardy cat anyways, and as soon as all the hands reached towards him, before I could say anything...I had two torn hands and a torn shoulder and back and he was gone in the kitchen!! She looked shocked and said, "He attacked you!" I said he was just scared and not used to people...

So then her dad kept looking at our other cats, and kept "choosing" ones that we had already said were not available...
However, Tiglet, our longhaired female cat who mothers everyone was trying very hard to be noticed by her...

Finally after only about ten minutes and no real interactions or a chance for anyone to get to know her, she said, "Well, none of them seem to be bonding with me, so I guess there is no one here for me."

I am going to call the vet Monday who sent her to me, and let him know how things went, in case she says anything to him about no "good" cats available for adoption at our home....grrrrrrrr...

Anyways...I said I would post back on how things went, and we still have ten cats in the house...*sighs*

At least they are all great, except for Callie who pees and poops on the kitchen floor...grrrrr...that is yet another issue we continue to work on with her...maybe someday I will find the right magical formula of litter and such...

Sorry that didn't work out Tambrey...better for the cats I imagine though. I hope you find homes for them, I know what it's like trying. I'm hoping to find the home or a home for this lost cat I found last night...well, I assume he was lost...I have never seen him before and he is declawed.

Tiara sent me a Christmas present this weekend..and a Thank You card for taking care of her :D

That was sweet of Tiara to send you a card :)

Yes, I am just as happy none "bonded" with her, because I would have worried about whoefer went with her...and she said she used to work for animal control and all that....hhmmmm....I wonder why she no longer works for animal control?! Maybe she does nt have the patience for catching them or letting them get to know her?

I don't know...hubby says I am "too picky" about the homes they go to...but they become like my babies...and I only want the best for them after I ahve given them the best I could...

Except for Majik and Sissy, all of the cats are even spayed/neutered and up on shots...

I will keep trying...eventually the right fit will happen for them :)

There's nothing wrong with being "picky" about potential adopters....the screening process should be thorough, and you will know the right person when the kitten or cat in particular are drawn to them, and/or, the potential adopter shows an exceptional interest and that interest/bond is returned by the cat or kitten.

When screening, watch how the potential adopter interacts with the kitten/cat.....how they approach...how they hold/handle/pet/attempt to bond....are they put off by the cat's refusal to be held, or do they continue the attempt and are patient, etc...do they ask questions.....little things like these are all things to watch for when choosing a good candidate for taking home the little darlings you have worked so hard to care for/foster/raise.

I agree with Traci, from what you said Tambrey, I wouldn´t have let any cat go home with her. How scarey for a cat to be surrounded like its some kind of cattle round-up. Besides animals sense kindness in people and if they are afraid, its usually for a good reason. When we adopted our cat, we choose her because when they opened the pin they were all in, Mia jumped into my lap. And she has stayed there ever since!

Thanks, Traci and k@t :)

I know I want what is best for them, and I will wait until the right person comes along for each one...in the meantime, they have a good home here with us...

I only have one "issue" that might put a glitch in our caring for feral cats...we are looking to adopt a child or children from DHS, and I am not sure how they would feel about 10 cats inside the house!! I do not have an issue with it...boxes are kept clean, shots are up and stuff like that...so hopefully they will not see that we have 10 as negative and deny us a placement...

From what I can see in their manuals, it is only required that any animals with access to the outside be up on rabies shots, and of course up on other shots, which they all are...

Soooo...we will see...
