cryptorchid neuter help please

My puppy needs the above done when he gets "fixed". I have heard so many different people say so many different things my head is spinning. Some say to wait for it to drop. Some say have him fixed ASAP as it will never drop. Some say it WILL cause/be cancer if not done ASAP. The puppy is 17 weeks old, 55 lbs of happiness, German Shep. male. I would like to wait until his is 6 months old to have him fixed. My husband would like to wait until he is about a year old. He thinks that waiting will help the puppy mature more (grow bigger). What are YOUR thoughts??????? Thanks for any and all you have to say. Kim

these retained testicles are very very prone to cancer...i caqn see no problem with having it done tomorrow, next week or when ever...i can see no reason to wait till 6 monthds other than it might prvent a family disputelloi\f you wait for it to drop, that may never occur...if the vet cannot feel it in the scrotal rract by this time it will stay inside...if he can feel it then it might drop but if it is not p[alpable then get it donw as soon as your vet feels comfort able with the surgey...but again no reason to wait if it is not palpable....just an opinion

I second Davet....if your vet cannot palpate it, get him neutered promptly.

Don't take this wrong, but your husband's theory is moot and is also a dangerous one.
