Cat went from grieving to a loud mouth

Just hoping someone could give me some advice.

My cat Orion has been in serious grief for almost 5 months now. His brother and life long friend died over the summer. We were devestated. It was sudden and heartbreaking and we miss him terribly.

The problem is since Toro died, Orion has become the loudest cat. He meows at EVERYTHING. Its not even if he's hungry or thirsty. He just MEOWS! The only time he is quiet is when we are curled up in bed together. Since I can't spend 24 hrs a day in bed, I need another option. I know he is just lonely but I can't bring home another friend for him. I spend as much time with him as I can while I am home, but I have to work sometimes! I've tried distracting him, I've changed playing with him more, I've tried everything I can think of to get him to be okay.

I need more options. Help!

I would suggest getting him to your vet for a check-up in the event that he could be suffering stress that is leading to an underlying health problem. Stress-induced illness is common.

I tried a vet and the vet said he needed time to adjust. He's fine physically, just misses comany. I would get him a friend, but can't bring in another cat right now due to my living circumstances. (A roommie who not only is allergic, isn't very fond of cats. She puts up with the Orion because I've had him for years. She would NOT accept a new cat in the house.) Any other ideas?

How old is he and when was his last vet visit? If he's older than 7, any sudden illness can develop as a cause of stress. It would be unusual for kitty to be depressed for 5 months after the loss of his companion, so it's important that health issues are ruled out. The vocalizing could be due to diminished vision or hearing as well, if he is an older kitty. For this reason, a vet check would be appropriate.

He's six years old. I took him to a vet in Sept. His brother had died about a month and a half before that. I haven't noticed any other signs something might be wrong. He eats well, moves well, sleeps the same. He's just loud. I could try again though.
