Davet. Question for you- Why would she do this in the first place? Was there a lack of feeling back there.
I want you all to know that I found her already injured. I could not just leave her in that state, and took her to the vet - no problem. I have just had a long line of spending that has left us broke. Not broke like I don't feel I should, but broke like I can't. I just had my female cat altered around Halloween, took in a completely deaf Pit Bull mix who wandered up http://www.deafdogs.org/adoption/profiles/daisy16.html who is up for adoption - Hint hint!! The reason I came here was to try and find a way I could treat her myself. I found that I can't so I will do what I have to do. I am growing quite attached to her- she probably has found a new home

Re: Dog chewed tail off... Help please
i'm npt sure what you mean..."why would she chew"///if that is what you mean i suspec it was nerve injury or abcess that irritated her and she keep chewing and chewing...like a little kid picking a sore., if there was a way to treat it yourself i would definitly suggest it but i know of no other treatment than to remove it because, i think it will be come so infected and it will travel up the spine and cause paralysis...this is the worst case scnerio and again every thing i am saying is without seeing the dog.But your description pretty well indicates the Degloving ( i used that word before but screwed up the spelling) Even if it were my dog i would not consider any other treatment esxcept amputation.....and again we may be all wrong but your description would lead a vet to no other treatment.....good luck

She is home from the vet and doing well with her shorter, but healthy tail. What a relief! Thank you all for your imput. She and I feel so much better.
