Oh, I know. I'm scared now to let him out (once he gets better)! Who knows what the heck is out there. It couldn't have been another cat. Our cats do fight with the other neighbourhood cats but something that left the marks on Vanilla? Yikes.

More likely a dog attack, and you need to watch the wounds carefully for any signs of infection, keep in contact with your vet (the drain tube will need to be removed in 5-7 days, plus suture removal).

This forum strongly advocates Indoors ONLY for cats. Please read the page in it's entirety.

It might be. I'm not too sure what might have attacked him. He's looking better today. He's much more alert, doing his normal meow and purring :)
He is on antibiotics and what we've tried is putting some turkey on a plate and putting half a pill in the turkey. It's worked so far! Yes, I believe the vet said his stitches will be removed on Friday and the bandage will be removed in 10 days.

I have a cat who survived a massive massive abcess when she was a kitten...
It took almost 8 weeks for the wound to fully heal.

But it DID heal...

If you suspect that your cat was in fight with dogs in your area... you should really keep him inside... are people allowed to just let your dogs roam around? i thought there was a law in the states that all dogs had to be IN a yard or ON a leash... :)

I don't really know what could have attacked him, but it wasn't another cat, that's for sure. The markings on him are just too big for a cat. I have no clue if it was a dog, but they're normally allowed to run around without a leash (if the owner is around). But I'm in Canada, so I really don't know.
Wow, 8 weeks? Yikes! Well, I keep telling people that it could have been worse! I hate hearing what he must have gone through...I just want to keep it all on the bright side of things. :)
